The following is an article written for the Examiner website for Orlando's Alternative Religions page.

Many of you will be surprised/disgusted/dubious of the touchy-feely joy joy PC-ness of the piece. You might think I do not mean what I am writing. I do, however. I may not agree with the liberal/white light view of diversity but as a pragmatist I realize diversity IS. I cannot stop or change it, so I might as well find a way to make it palatable. I believe various religions can share their secular portions of their faiths in order to find common ground and create a more harmonious existence for all. I cannot stop the influences around me, but I can find a way to incorporate them in a way that brings me personal joy. Anyway:

We are a diverse people, we like to say. We a multicultural, multiracial, multi and trans gendered and....well, you get it. We have so many differences and Halloween is a holiday that seems to bring out our most divisive qualities.

It is that wonderful time of the year when certain insecure fundamentalist Christians get their panties in a bunch fearing a bag of candy and a Wal-Mart costume will send their kiddies straight to H-E-Double Hockey Sticks. There are the "horror Houses" where children have the crap scared out of them with dramatic human dioramas of AIDs in the making, or slaughterhouse abortions being performed. There are sermons long and short, claiming directly from the pulpit that allowing one's child to partake in this quintessential cultural joy will result in card carrying occultism...and just because it did it to me doesn't mean it happens to everyone!

In the 1980's and 90's I spent all my time educating people who had no desire to be educated about occult and alternative religions. With little more than album cover art that period of time, known to people in my field as The Satanic Panic gave rise to the anti-Halloween industry/movement. *

Seemingly unaware of virtually every human psychological truth, like "forbidden fruit," or Pavlovian conditioning, ministers began a trend designed to scare the youth away from Halloween and all it's evil influences (like candy. Like costuming. Like fresh air. Like exercise. Like community. ) Or they would bore the kids silly.

The churches took a pretty black or white approach. Either there were to be blood soaked nightmare makers, or tedious festivals with little more to distinguish them as Halloween based than earth tones. So...choices:

SCARY BLOODY EVERYTHING WE HATE HORROR HOUSES BUT NOT REALLY HORROR HOUSES BECAUSE WE ARE AGAINST THEM BUT STILL, JUST TO SHOW YOU KIDS WHAT'LL HAPPEN IF YOU TRICK OR TREAT......

Craft store leaves, straw, scarecrows and enough apples to decimate an orchard within a family friendly experience to show just how much fun we can all have without resorting to that ancient Satan soaked Halloween thing. Fun. 'lotsa fun. Did anyone see which bag we put the fun in?

'Makes a parent want to die! Even if i wasn't a heathen I'd still want my kids to have that same joyous experience I had as a kid. The ability to transform into another character for the evening was planned months ahead. The choices of who to go with---the naughty kids with eggs and shaving cream, or the kids who's folks allowed them to eat more than a few token pieces of candy when you arrived home? The creepiness when you turned a corner and your eyes had not yet adjusted and the darkness swept over you..................it was magic.

What it wasn't was religion.

Pumpkins. Candy. Trick-or-Treat.. Costumes....As a Satanist I'd love to take religious credit for all of this but that would be a lie. The American celebration of Halloween is utterly secular, regardless of what the ancient roots were, or how many generations of dead druids have passed. Sure there are religious aspects and those are practiced in religious situations by members of those religions, but the religious aspects are not what the overall cultural celebration is about.

By clearly understanding the difference between the religious aspects and the secular aspects of the holidays we can find common ground like never before.This point of view benefits Christians as well.

Let's try this:

Christmas trees. Reindeer. Santa. Wreaths. Garland. Lights.....not one of these things is "Christian" per se, but they have become the secular celebration of Christmas.

Oftentimes I am approached by Wiccans or neo-pagans or Satanists who want to launch some sort of campaign to gripe about the separation of Church and State during the holiday season and that we should take issue with Christmas in the schools or tax supported decorations along the local roads and public areas. . WRONG!

Secular expressions BIND a community, not divide it.

We have gotten so uptight that we can't even see the good that comes with diversity we consistently give lip service to. Nothing about a tree and some lights will turn me or my kids into Christians and dressing up as Jack Sparrow and eating sugar until he pukes won't turn little Johnny into a Satanist. What both those things will do, however, is give us common ground as Americans.

I don't want a house or a festival against that.

As a previous Brooklyn resident, a native New Yorker, and a spokesperson for the Church of Satan I disturbed that you'd use the headline chosen to tell the story of a viscious and disturbed teenager and the death of a perverted junkie pederast.
Given all that tawdry proven information one must wonder why you'd choose "Satanism" as an angle to draw readers.? Are your readers so jaded that pedophilia, internet seduction, drug abuse and brutal murder aren't quite interesting enough?
As a teenager Katehis was ineligable to join the Church of Satan. His actions further demonstrate that he was not considered a Satanist by any current legitmate or academic or philosophical or religious standard. What is obvious is that he was a Christian Heretic, a Christian devil-worshipper, totally accepting of the Christian mythos and opting to support the anti-Hero. That is not Satanism, which views Satan as merely a metaphor and would forbid Katehis' actions.
However it is equally disturbing that everyone from the Mayor to Curtis Sliwa are willing to defend Weber, who's sexual preference is not an issue, but his decision to include underage boys is a Satanic sin, and one would have thought a mainstream one!
Perhaps it is easier to allow the Satanic label to stick on the murderer than to have the pedophile label attach itself to the friend of so many "normal" folk.

Okay, first I have to deal with the stuff below---essentially the first CoS member I have ever met who doesn't appreciate what I do and that I do it for them, and then, get this, I am called anti-climatic!

As my beloved Jim would say Jesus Fucking Kneival! Did I wake up in FuckYgraine Town again?

Ok, so after I get shit on by Member X, I go to the website of my latest interview. I was asked By High Priest Gilmore to do this podcast of a guy who is interviewing/reporting on 52 religions in 52 weeks.

Now I know Mr. Hummel. the interviewer, meant it as a compliment, but regardless being called anti-climatic is not flattering. He no doubt was revealling how normal the Satanic witch was. He was trying to surprise his audience with my lack of black apparel (the interview was outside, ok? It was a gazillion degrees in the shade. It was a wonder I was wearing clothes at all!,) my deep and abiding love for Starbucks (I downed two white mochas with extra espresso during the taping, while the poor man spilled his frap,) and that I kept checking my cell to make sure my teenagers hadn't actually killed each other while I was out. I am not sure but he may have seen me pull up in my white minivan. Surely that would make any Satanist seem anti-climatic.

But damn.

Two slams in one day.

A Critique

Ladies & Gents,

Often the Church of Satan is accused of being a great big organization where members must never question the hierarchy. This is not true. I recently received a letter from a loyal member who disagrees with me and just to prove we are open to criticism I will post that letter here. Of course while he is welcome to voice his views, I, too, am welcome to voice my responses.

Now, I am about to slam this member. This is not normal. Generally when a member comes to me to question something I did or has even a disagreement with me I respond with kindness. I love our members, truly. They are part of the reason I do what I do and I feel a loyalty and devotion towards them that I cannot explain. When they need me I want them to know I am there, 100%.

In this case, however, the member in question choose to lie, to be rude, and to be arrogant and to think by flattering me I would simply fold. 'not my style.

However, I will not publish his name because I am a benevolent deity :)

O course I do not want to hurt you, and I understand that being a Magistra you have a more direct knowledge of the problems of our Church than an active Member like me, based in a country far from the Satanic way of life.

My feelings do not play into my work for Satanism. In fact if they are doing more than serving the interests of Satanists I am rendered incapable of doing my job, so please don't consider them.

However you are positively correct in saying i have more direct knowledge of the problems of our church than you. Having over 29 years experience in advocacy for alternative/occult religions gives me a point of view based not just on times served, but the changing societal times.

Anyway my consideration is that to answer to all the attacks from the other religionists is a wrong strategy that could ruin our reputation instead of bettering it. It is important to remember that if somebody attacks another, the attacked will generally react.

If I answered ALL the attacks from other religionists I wouldn't have time to cook dinner or get laid. On any given day I read about 25 attacks. 3/4 of them are from either individuals or churches that have so little power that to respond to them would be granting them more than they deserve. The other 1/4 get a token, pre-packaged response that simply defines the difference between Satanism and the Christian heresy of Devil Worship.

An extremely small amount get a personal message because I feel like it. Yup. No other reason---well, actually, as I have informed our High Priest, I do it to keep my claws sharp. 'funny, he didn't send me a little note.

Then there are the ones that I am asked by CoS administration to deal with.

The rest are either responded to because they have legal or social power, or because the case went national. These are the ones that are the most necessary.

So bottom line--I DON'T Respond to ALL the ATTACKS, and if you think that I am ruining our reputation, which would actually hurt me deeply, please list the times I have done so and if you are accurate and can substantiate that notion I will consider retiring after 29 years.

Christians have the problem of child molesters, we have the problem of the criminals who do not understand us but want to join us. Every Church has its problems, of course. What we should do is to clearly say what we are and what we are not, without making captious definitions and distinctions that are useless and can lead also a Magistra like you to do incorrect, captious statements. I do not bother you definition of “ritual abuse” like I do not bother the distinction between “Satanico” and “Satanista” that the head of the Bambini di Satana, here in Italy made on his internet site and at which, after my email, stopped to give the great emphasis that it did not deserve.

You wrote a whole email and fixed something? Really. A whole one? You changed the "ico" and "ista" on "Bambini di Satana?" And here I am wasting my time on things like legislatures, prisons, and court cases. My meaningless life spent attempting to keep murderers in prison by preventing them from insanity defenses based on pretending their crimes were based on Satanic religious freedoms! My futile and meaningless desires to keep devil worshipers from using The Satanic Bible in jails in order to further damage our reputation. Oh, wait. You claim I already have ruined our reputation with "incorrect, captious statements." I have no idea what a captious is but I am guessing it means wrong. If you are claiming I have made wrong statements about SRA or Ritual Abuse I would love to be properly educated by someone who wrote an email and changed the world.

Besides it is not attaching traditional Satanism that our reputation will increase. We simply can say the we do not worship the Devil like a theistic entity.

We can? Really? I am fairly sure if you read this blog you will find I have mentioned that little tidbit about a gazillion times. Likewise I have said so on television, in college classrooms, in newspaper articles, on witness stands, in depositions, at police academies, and on the radio. Wait! Oh! Shit! I neglected an email. I stand before you a failure.

My last consideration is that some letters that you posted are for a certain part discussions between Satanists that, you know very well, the herd is not able to understand, and I think that in publishing those emails you insisted in violating the rules of this board.

To those who write the things to stir up hatred and fear of those who are American enough to embrace religious freedom and fight for the rights of others, I give you me....the Satanic Grandmother aka She Who Calls Out The Flipparoos.

In this shot you see Magistra Ygraine demonstrating that despite The Wizard of Oz, water does not make a witch melt, even the wicked kind!

I am becoming a bit nervous. I keep hearing echoes of the Satanic Panic. While my rational mind tells me those days are over, each day I see more posts from, granted, stupid people who seem to need to hurt others but justify that infliction of pain with lies designed to stir up the common folk.

As I have written before, ad nauseum, it does not help that there are genuine devil worshipers/Christian Heretics running about calling themselves Satanists--but as embarrassing as these people are only a very few are actually dangerous. They are, luckily, so obvious however, that law enforcement can stick the proverbial fork in them and declare them done in a microwave minute.

But for us, for the real Satanists who live and love life to the fullest, for those of us with kids and grandkids who want to embrace all the joys this fantastic world has to offer, this is a horrible state of affairs. It takes so very little to start the kind of fire that burns with no regard for what is is destroyed.

Satanists Pray AGAINST the Church!

I received the emailed version of Jan Markell’s newsletter “Understanding the Times” this morning and was a bit shocked to read the cover article by Heidi Swander. Here are the first two paragraphs:

I was stunned recently by the story of a pastor from Brazil. One day in the not-too-distant past he was airborne and seated next to a lady who, at 6 p.m., began praying fervently. When an opportune moment presented itself, he asked her if she was a Christian. Much to his chagrin she said, no, that she was praying to her father, Satan, for the demise of pastor so-and-so.

As the conversation progressed, this Brazilian pastor found out that the Church of Satan worldwide has set aside the 6 p.m. hour every day to pray for the demise of the Christian church, and most specifically for its pastors. It would also appear that they assume or are assigned specific Christian leaders to pray against.

Heidi goes on to remind us that it is 6pm someplace throughout the world at any given moment. The saddest part of this entire thing is not that Satan’s minions pray to him for his will to be done, but that I do not pray as fervently as they do! This is a wake up call and should be to all of us. Even though Jesus said that “the gates of hell” will not prevail against His Church, we can assume from that comment that they will TRY desperately to destroy the Church.

Is it not interesting that our defeated foe continues to work hard AS IF he has NOT been defeated?! He knows his time is short and he also knows he will not prevail, yet he has not given up. He continues to move ahead with his monstrous plan to destroy the Church. Barring that, he creates as much havoc as possible, with one skirmish after another against
God’s elect; ultimately, against God Himself.

Folks, if you are a Christian reading this, then it goes without saying that prayer is the best weapon we have against the dark forces of Satan’s global empire. As we know, he constantly roams the earth looking for anyone that he can devour. He is the prince of the power of the air and uses that to its fullest to accomplish the tasks he has lined up.

Many are saying that we are in the End Times. I believe it and in fact, with everything heating up the way it has been, it becomes nearly impossible to say that we are NOT in the End Times. We await one significant event, which will kick off the Tribulation/Great Tribulation: the signing of the 7 year covenant with Israel, by one man who will act as leader of the “free” world. This maniacal genius – spawned from hell itself – will pretend to be an ally and friend of Israel, but of course will simply be biding his time until he can overthrow them.

Christian: we know the end of the story as it was written in eternity past! Christ is victorious and therefore WE are victorious IN Him. Paul tells us in Ephesians that we are seated with Christ now:

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3)

The entirety of Ephesians speaks of our calling and position in Christ, along with the manifold blessings of being “in” Him. He is the Head of His Church, which is His Body. There is nothing that can stand against Him. Our responsibility though is to pray and trust. We need to pray for His will, His wisdom and His protection for all within His Body. If Satanists around the globe are praying for their master’s will to be accomplished, how much more do WE as Christians need to pray that God’s will be accomplished?

Daniel of the Old Testament was a virtual prayer warrior, who understood the need for and privilege of praying to the God of the universe. God does NOT need our prayers to accomplish His goals. He invites us to JOIN Him in warring against “powers, principalities and powers” which seek to overthrow God’s will and His eventual Kingdom. In doing so, we share in the blessings of that victory. Pray. Pray long and pray often.

To even believe such nonsense should be a religious sin! As a member of the clergy of The Church of Satan I can assure you of the following:
1. Satanists do not pray. Period. Not even for destruction, not for anything. Satanists do not pary because…..
2. Satanists do not believe in any gods, devils, demons, angels, faeries, hobbits, or any external, supernatural deities or entities. Satan is a METAPHOR (look it up,) therefore…
3. Satanists do not see Satan as their “Father.” Satan is a metaphor for the self–

So….this story is either a complete lie, or the pastor bumped into a very specific form of Christian. Yes, a Christian. You see this sort of behavior is not practiced by the Church of Satan, but instead by Christian Heretics called Devil Worshipers. The thing is to be a devil worshiper you have to believe all the same things in The Holy Bible as a Christian, BUT you root for the bad guy.

So, at six o’clock all real Satanists, from the Church of Satan, are NOT praying! We don”t pray to imaginary fairytales of good or bad entities. We might be indulging in a good meal, or a glass of lovely wine. We might be playing Clue with our kids, or on the phone with a good friend. The last thing we are doing is giving the slightest thought to the demise of people so stupid as to believe this sort of thing. We find them amusing, yes, but worthy of our time or energy? Not even a little.

Definition

Ritual abuse has been defined as:

a brutal form of abuse of children, adolescents, and adults, consisting of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, and involving the use of rituals. Ritual does not necessarily mean satanic. However, most survivors state that they were ritually abused as part of satanic worship for the purpose of indoctrinating them into satanic beliefs and practices. Ritual abuse rarely consists of a single episode. It usually involves repeated abuse over an extended period of time. The physical abuse is severe, sometimes including torture and killing. The sexual abuse is usually painful, sadistic, and humiliating, intended as means of gaining dominance over the victim. The psychological abuse is devastating and involves the use of ritual/indoctrination, which includes mind control techniques and mind altering drugs, and ritual/intimidation which conveys to the victim a profound terror of the cult members and of the evil spirits they believe cult members can command. Both during and after the abuse, most victims are in a state of terror, mind control, and dissociation in which disclosure is exceedingly difficult.[13]

WHAT IS RITUAL ABUSE? (BROAD DEFINITION) Ritual abuse is the abuse of a child, weaker adult, or animal in a ritual setting or manner. In a broad sense, many of our overtly or covertly socially sanctioned actions can be seen as ritual abuse, such as military basic training, hazing, racism, spanking children, and partner-battering. Some abuse is private...some public. Public ritual abuse may be either open or secret. WHAT IS RITUAL ABUSE? (NARROW DEFINITION) The term ritual abuse is generally used to mean prolonged, extreme, sadistic abuse, especially of children, within a group setting. The group's ideology is used to justify the abuse, and abuse is used to teach the group's ideology. The activities are kept secret from society at large, as they violate norms and laws.[14]

Origins of the term

Pazder introduced the term "ritualized abuse" in 1980, describing the experiences of an adult survivor that was disclosing satanic abuse memories. He defined the phenomenon as "repeated physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual assaults combined with a systematic use of symbols, ceremonies, and machinations designed and orchestrated to attain malevolent effects." Later definitions came mostly from professionals addressing ritual abuse in child care settings. Finkelhor, Williams, Burns, and Kalinowski elaborated on Pazder's definition, defining ritual abuse as "abuse that occurs in a context linked to some symbols or group activity that have a religious, magical or supernatural connotation, and where the invocation of these symbols or activities are repeated over time and used to frighten and intimidate the children." Kelley referred to ritual abuse as the "repetitive and systematic sexual, physical, and psychological abuse of children by adults as part of cult or satanic worship"[15].

Evidence

There is a great deal of evidence supporting the existence of ritual abuse crimes as a worldwide phenomenon. Bottoms, Shaver and Goodman found in their 1993 study evaluating ritual abuse claims that in 2,292 alleged ritual abuse cases, 15% of the perpetrators in adult cases and 30% of the perpetrators in child cases confessed to the abuse[16]. "In a survey of 2,709 members of the American Psychological Association, it was found that 30 percent of these professionals had seen cases of ritual or religion-related abuse (Bottoms, Shaver & Goodman, 1991). Of those psychologists who have seen cases of ritual abuse, 93 percent believed that the reported harm took place and 93 percent believed that the alleged ritualism occurred....The similar research of Nancy Perry (1992) which further supports (the previous findings)...Perry also conducted a national survey of therapists who work with clients with dissociative disorders and she found that 88 percent of the 1,185 respondents indicated "belief in ritual abuse, involving mind control and programming"[17].

Recently an online survey[18] of over one thousand people answered questions about ritual abuse and extreme abuse crimes. In a summary of the survey [19], it was found that ritual abuse/mind control is a global phenomenon. Fifty-five percent stated they were abuse in a Satanic cult. Seventy-seven percent of the adult survivors that responded "had been threatened with death if they ever talked about the abuse." Also, "257 respondents reported that secret mind control experiments were used on them as children." Eighty-two percent reported being sexually abused by multiple perpetrators.

Anne Johnson Davis in her book Hell Minus One reported that her parents confessed to her abuse in writing and verbally to clergymen, and to the detectives from the Utah Attorney General's Office. Her suppressed memories started when she was in her mid-30s, which were fully substantiated by her mother and stepfather[20][21].

Many scientific journals articles have discussed the reality of ritual abuse and its effect on its victims. Some of these articles have discussed the extreme nature of these crimes[22], proof of the reality of the ritual abuse phenomenon and victims' symptoms[23], the connection between ritual abuse, multiple personality disorder and mind control[24] and the connections between ritual abuse reports and the higher levels of symptoms of childhood sexual and physical abuse[25]. Several additional studies and organizations have compiled research on the reality of ritual abuse crimes[26][27][28].

Ritual abuse and mind control crimes have also been confirmed in other books[29][30].

A study which identified 270 cases of sexual abuse in day care settings found that allegations of ritual abuse occurred in thirteen percent of the cases[31]. Ritual abuse occurrences have also been found in the Netherlands[38]and England[39]. Reports of ritual abuse have also been found in multiple personality disorder sufferers[15]. Kent believes that intergenerational satanic accounts are possible and that rituals related to them may come from a deviant interpretation of religious texts[40][41]. The society of normal people have trouble understanding that these things are possible, adding insult to the injury of the victims, according to ponerologist Andrew Lobaczewski. But when society falls under the spell of psychopaths, these are the people with the special knowledge of how to get by that can help others cope, though it is a bigger tragedy for them to have to relive such horrible experiences. It cannot be overstated how crucial knowledge is of the reality of significant psychopathic participation in society--totally normal-looking people who are capable of whatever mind-frame it takes to build a tunnel, for example, under a day-care center in order to torture a bunch of children into slavery.

In America there most surely have been individuals who have allowed their mental illness to manifest in a way that suggests SRA. Thenks to the churches and Hollywood, glamorizing and glorifying what they believe to be "Satanism," but what is actually the Christian Heresy of Devil Worship, criminals have been handed a "devil made me do it" defense. The fact that devil worship is not Satanism (an atheistic religion created in 1966) but a branch of Christianity, requiring a belief in the Holy Bible and all things religiously Christian, is often ignored. The last thing Christians want to own up to is that they themselves are the parents of the very thing they fear.

And yet true Satanism, as per The Satanic Bible, as practiced by The Church of Satan forbids ritual abuse, the harming of children and animals, and is so conservatively law and order that it remains a minority religion because prospective members are disappointed with the hard line taken by the Church. Most are astonished to find that genuine Satanists are the most vigilante citizens in matters of crime, refusing to accept forgiveness or any defense that requires mercy.

Yes, despite the fact that 89% of ALL crime, murder included is commited by Christians, no one blames the religion itself. The excuses vary. It seems when a Christian commits a crime the Christian community is allowed to disown the criminal. They are permitted to claim that due to his anti-Christian actions the criminal wasn't really a Christian, after all. Satanists are not permitted this denial despite The Satanic Bible, The Satanic Rules of The Earth, and the entire Satanic canon forbidding criminal behavior. In fact, The Holy Bible endorses violence, hatred, killing and other assorted variations from The Ten Commanments quite frequently, while Satanism does not. Satanism demands it's members follow the law and rather than move criminals from parish to parish, or send them to forgiveness driven rehabilitation, the Church of Satan terminates memberships of those who commit serious crimes. The problem, as always, is based in greed.

In the 1980's the advent of cable TV spawned a mass of evangelists to merge with some unethical couselors and shrinks and together they decided to justify their bigotry by claiming the metaphors of metal music were real and that Satanism was a thriving underground subculture. They blamed countless atrocities on people they deemed Satanic, filled the heads of patients and parishnors with False Memories (FMS*,) and managed to destroy a goodly amount of innocent lives by pointing accusatory fingers. The cottage industry that led to the Satanic Panic and made it flourish made evangelists and unethical mental health providers and shady writers of dubious talent rich. Really rich.

In 1992 the FBI's Lanning Report, named after Special Agent Kenneth Lanning who researched and authoried it, determined there was no such thing as organized ritual abuse. The Church of Satan, in particular, was completely vindicated. Lanning found that the occasional nut might use Satanic aesthetics or are Christian Heretics, who commit the very rare and occasional atrocity, but that SRA is actually a fallacy.

So when I, a member of the Church of Satan, a mother of five, and a grandmother read this twaddle in 2009, I am revolted. All I see is an excuse to justify bigotry and prejudice and a rejection of fact in order to strike fear in the ignorant. I see an attempt to re-awaken America's last witch hunt. I see more than 90% of the footnotes and articles are over ten years old and that most of the pro-SRAS authors have been discredited.

What is gained by this? Well, perhaps some disenfranchised Christian with a few screws loose will think that he can commit a crime for a devil (who doesn't exist.) Someone already inclined to commit a crime may find this a handy excuse. And, of course, those writers who made a living over the suffering of those in alternative religions will sell a few more lies.

The Satanic Panic is over, and those who attempt to re-start it are plainly nothing more than bigots.

Orlando criminal is not a Satanist. Less 80's, more justice, please.

We can assume that virtually every time someone is arrested at home they will usually have been a Holy Bible on their property. We can further assume that there is a 50-50 chance that in addition to the good book there is likely to be crucifixes, paintings of the last supper (on velvet or painted by numbers) , posters about footprints, and any number of books of the Christian fiction genre on the premises. And yet, NEVER are these items mentioned in the press regarding the arrest or the crime. In a country that is 80% Christian it seems inconceivable to the cops, prosecutors, journalists and judges that part of the criminal mind set might be influenced by their religion, only other people's weird ones. The Catholic Clergy scandal is always seen as a scandal of the priests. There is an undercurrent of presumption that molestation is due to celibacy, not the religion that imposes it.. It is never debated that a religion that places all sin firmly at the feet of women in general and that praises innocence and virginity, as well as implies that children and women are the property of men , might actually be encouraging abuse. In the tradition of hating the sin and not the sinner we see the church happily blaming individual priests for their perversions lest someone question the institution that gave rise to them. Once again the acceptance of Christianity is so broad that the fact that the vast majority of criminals claim to be Christian is never seen as an indictment of the religion. Other religions do not get this free pass. Florida has been a hot bed of horrible crimes this past year or so. The entire nation has watched with a mixture of voyeuristic addiction and repulsion the stories of Casey and Caylee Anthony, Ronald, Missy & Haleigh Cummings, and now, the seeming horror of poor Tracy Ocasio. No mention of religion was made regarding the Anthony Crime. The Church served as background for the memorial. There was no end of swearing to God while lying. Prayer vigils were common and the community leaned on ministers and pastors to get through the pain. Yet, a religion that teaches that to spare the rod is to spoil the child, or that demands that God is loved above children was never a subject in the crime or the medias interpretation of it. The Cummings case also was void of the religion of any of the "persons of interest." We do not read in the newspapers what religion Misty Coslin Cummings follows. We do know that the marriage of Cummings and Croslin was originally supposed to be a Baptist affair but became a civil one because, we must suppose, of the shotgun timing, or perhaps simple good taste. Everyone knows Christianity and Christians. `No one wants to blame what they them selves accept and in fact use to decry crime. It comes as no surprise that the very idea that Christianity or any other traditional/common religion might encourage criminality is met with either abject confusion or righteous anger, and yet people have no problem looking for a religious reason for crimes that confuse them. Recently WESH.com reported that James Hataway, a person of interest in the disappearance of Tracy Ocasio "was interested in "dark arts." Ocoee detectives said they seized paraphernalia relating to murder, suicide, cannibalism, vampires and serial killers from Hataway's home where he lived with his father....." and that "Investigators also removed items having to do with the dark arts -- generally associated with Satanism and witchcraft." Based upon the statements of Rachel Clarke, we can assume Mr. Hataway is not a particularly nice man. The crimes he is alleged to have committed against women demonstrate the sort of dangerous cowardice we are becoming all too familiar with in this age of Nancy Grace and 48 Hours. This, however, should not be an excuse to accept disproved and dangerous stereotypes that end up affecting the innocent far more than damaging the guilty. When a Satanist reads that items have been removed from somewhere that are associated with Satanism they are bewildered. What sort of items are being discussed? Cookbooks? Comics? Vintage hats? Classical Music? The collected works of Mark Twain? Satanism is a religion that celebrates the individual. The one thing all Satanists have in common is nothing--which is kind of the point. There are no mandatory items every Satanist must have. So the statement in print, that objects related to Satanism have been found on the property of an alleged criminal, leaves the genuine Satanist scratching their head and concerned that this sort of vague acceptance of a faulty stereotype can only harm those who in reality decry the very crimes being alleged. Here it should be noted that Mr. Hataway is not a Satanist. The Church of Satan has no record of him. Additionally it could only be a NON-Satanist who would refer to cannibalism, suicide, murder as an "art," dark or otherwise. This sort of transference, where the majority decide that what they don't like must be what others who aren't them DO like is dangerous and without appropriate purpose. Hataway may or may not be interested in Satanism and witchcraft, but if all it takes to be identified as someone involved in a religion is what sort of books are on their shelves there is not a Satanist on the planet who would not be mistaken for a Christian as they all have the Holy Bible. Then they might also be Jewish because the use kosher salt while cooking. If they read Dawkins are they ChristaJewAtheists? The problem is obvious. Imagine? Do we think Joe Blow is Michael Jordan because he has a Lakers banner? Is someone into bestiality if own dogs? Is everyone with a Lean Cuisine in the freezer skinny...or fat? In the 1980's we saw thousands of people have their lives ruined because some money hungry integrity deprived therapists and clergy people got together and decided to create an urban myth. They sold the notion that there were vast conspiracies led by Satanic organizations that murdered, abused and committed all manner of crimes while being in league with the devil. They fueled hysteria, reaped massive financial bounty, and lied through their teeth. In 1992 the FBI released a report that concluded there was no such thing as organized Satanic Ritual Abuse/SRA. The report concluded that because Satanists are people it is possible that A Satanist might commit A crime, but statistically they were no more likely, and in fact religiously LESS likely to break the law. In years to follow the Church of Satan has reported far more criminals than they have been accused of being home to. They have terminated the memberships of those convicted of crimes and have assisted law enforcement in the prosecution of criminals. While other religions practice forgiveness Satanism demands justice. While Catholicism accepts confession for absolution and refuses to inform authorities of criminals in their midst, Satanists police themselves and report wrong-doers. For this reason it is so distressing when WESH and the police imply a religious motivation to the alleged actions of James Hataway, and worse, allow Tracy Ocasios parents to believe their daughter's fate may have some bizarre religious meaning based in Satanism. Hataway is an alleged scum bag who preys on women, nothing more. He lurks in bars, steals those who bring joy to others, and then runs home to Daddy because he is too weak and cowardly to be on his own and deal with people as a productive adult. By implying a religious motivation for his alleged crimes, we absolve Hataway of the shameful responsibility that should be all his. There is no rite in Satanism, no ritual or holiday or any reason to abduct young women! The Satanic Bible forbids it. The Satanic canon, including The Satanic Rules of the earth forbid it. No modern religion that practices any form of Witchcraft allows this. We must not allow Hataway to minimize or negate his personal responsibility by playing into falsehoods, myths, and lies about religions that veer from the mainstream. Tracy Ocasio's parents should know that while the Christians in the community are praying for their daughter, the Satanists ARE NOT supporting Hataway. In fact the Satanists are doing what the Christians are forbidden to do, wishing him ill, wanting him to pay for the horrors he has brought on others and hoping he suffers for any harm he has caused. They are also disgusted that the media and the police could be gullible enough to fall into that 1980's trap of confusing interest into motivation. Each day we find more diversity, less bigotry, and more reasons to celebrate that which makes us different having ways of bringing us together. It is a shame when we move backwards and allow our fears to create excuses for those who would ruin what is best about us all.

This is James Hataway: A creep of epic proportions, but NOT a Satanist!

I have been involved in an online issue involving a sex offender named Danny Schertz. It seems Mr. Schertz claims to be both a member of the Church of Satan and the Temple of Set. Claims notwithstanding, what he is is a convicted sex offender and therefore human garbage.

As Mr. Schertz is a convicted sex offender I refuse to throw the word "alleged" around, or concern myself with his rights. As far as I am concerned he does not't have any. He forfeited them when he chose to abuse a teenager and pimp her in truck stops(www.spokesman.com/blogs/sirens/2009/jun/08/devil-worshipping-sex-offender-now-living-downtown/.) He has been designated as a third tier offender, one most likely to re-offend, and he cannot seem to shut his decidedly large mouth.

Now, if Schertz wasn't insisting that he is what I am, a Satanist, he'd still be society's problem, but not mine in particular. But Schertz, despite all evidence to the contrary, claims to be a member of my church, as well as another alternative religious organization, The Temple of Set, and, as a result, brings shame and continues the misinformation that justifies discrimination to both of these legal religions. The Satanic Bible and the canon of Satanic law are crystalline about sexual abuse. We are against it in any form. Period. There is a responsibility that comes with freedom for the consenting adult, and most sane people of any religion understand that. So, instead of kicking that dead horse, I want to address a comment left by a reader of these articles about Schertz: This is what Jeanie had to say:

"I'm afraid to even comment here, on this subject. Both are abhorrent to me. I don’t want to conjure up any devils or predators by accident. She writes well, I will give her that. But my first thought had nothing to do with sexual predators or even religious (or anti-religious) viewpoints. My issue is with not believing in forgiveness. I think that’s so void and empty. How does one go through life and all its ups and downs without giving (or getting) forgiveness?"

This is a truly important distinction that separates Satanism from traditional religions. Satanists do not believe in forgiveness, at least not automatic or divine or mandatory forgiveness.

It may be fun for the mainstream to lie and claim Satanists sacrifice, or uphold perversions, or worship a literal devil entity, but those myths are untrue and do not actually inform about the Satanic mindset. Our lack of forgiveness does. It speaks volumes about why Satanists aren't Christians, and why Satanists follow their innate, natural inclination to accept Satanism as a formal religion.

When i read Jeanie's comment what happens is I am blown away that she can even get around the sexual offender and his crimes and concern herself with whether I feel forgiveness or if Schertz is offered it. I have a physical response, a revulsion to the very idea that anyone can read about what Schertz has done and want anything less than a cruel and merciless death for him.

The Satanist wants to know why forgiveness is necessary? How does it help society? How does it prevent another crime?

Then the Satanist comprehends that forgiveness is a method by which the harmed rationalize their powerlessness. It allows the victim some method by which to feel they have some control. It is a method of self-deceit....and strangely, this can make some degree of sense to the Satanist. This, to us, would be magic--a method where one changes one's psychological mindset in order to achieve an end, in this case, to feel better.

However, for the Satanist, there are other forms of psychodrama/magic that perform the same function to the victim without granting forgiveness/power to the offender: We curse....and I am not talking about flipping a bird out the window. The benefit of cursing is obvious: It breaks no laws, and the practitioner feels empowered and without guilt or remorse.

The Satanist finds that forgiveness simply allows the weak and cruel license to continue being weak and cruel. We feel that society coddles the criminal, allowing him to thrive, breed more criminals, and continue an anti-Darwinian support of the worst of us. The courts maintain a mythology that sex offenders can be either cured or controlled, and the truly innocent suffer. The churches want us to forgive these animals despite the fact their supposed gods do nothithing to prevent these crimes against women and children--which, if one reads The Holy Bible, should surprise no one. That book hardly defends women and kids, but it sure does demand that we offer forgiveness to those who damage them!*

So, despite the belief that Ozzy Osbourne lyrics and album covers generate an interest in Satanism, it is actually the hypocrisy, the lack of fairness that actually brings members to the Satanic ranks. The people who find that traditional religion's power, filtering into societies laws and the mores of a culture encourage criminality and abuse are the people who read The Satanic Bible and find it's truth apparent any time they open their eyes.

Jeanie concerns herself that a lack of forgiveness might lead to a void and empty life. She need not worry. The Satanist embraces their hatred as much as they embrace their love. Again, contrary to popular belief Satanists are not all about hate, and are probably the most romantic and passionate people alive. The difference is nature. The Satanist does not automatically love their neighbor. The Satanist feels that makes all love cheap and without genuine value . Nor does the Satanist automatically hate, we just hate those who do us wrong or damage the world we love. These emotions are equally important and beneficial and honest. If a Satanist professes love, know that it is real, devoted, and deep. Likewise, should the Satanist profess hate, it is without measure and there will be much atonement required for forgiveness.

In a Satanic world, which Satanists accept will never exist as it will always be a minority religion, embraced only by those who are inherently and innately resonating with a specific and unchangeable belief structure, Schertz would either have been executed or placed on a penal colony for life. He offers nothing, drains much, and is only welcome in the pews where )forgiveness is currency.

Three days ago I read something that made me feel the need to double check all available media to ascertain if it indeed is 2009. I checked newspapers, TV listings, copyright dates—anything to ensure that some person was indeed publishing, this year, month, week, an article about Satanism that could have come directly from the height of the Satanic Panic, and was doing it without the slightest bit of irony.

I got a hold of this from the wonderful Catherine Beyer of Alternative Religions writing about The Satanism Scapegoat . The article seems to be from 2006, but you'd swear 1995 or 1996or 2009 BCE for that matter. Regardless it is making new rounds now and should be squashed like the cyber bug it is.

Obviously if this had come from a Christian church/pastor/organization I would not even bother to have checked. I/we (the CoS and all legit members of alternative/Pagan/Occult religions) expect that sort of religious propaganda from institutions who are dependent on the antiquated and untrue notion that Satanists are dangerous and that Satanic cults exist and do all sorts of reprehensible things—which thus far have only been proven to have been committed by Christian I might add---that lie is their bread and butter and expecting them to suddenly tell the truth is unrealistic. This man, however,

has no excuse for publishing such blatant falsehoods. He is utterly capable of obtaining criminal statistics, reading them, and repeating them.

Worse still is that he is in a position that grants him a sort of automatic authority, and that lay people have absolutely no reason to presume he is telling anything other than the truth. Kids---this is how the Satanic Panic started.

So I am going to, point by point, rip a part this shameless demand for the masses to hate and discriminate against their fellow man. It is simply inexcusable that a man in Kouri's position would allow bigotry to replace truth, and it cannot be allowed to stand unchallenged! Please note that my response writing is in color and italicized.

Satanic or ritualistic crime and murder

Fifteen year old Elyse Marie Pahler was "sacrificed to Satan" by three San Luis Obispo, CA teen-agers in one of the most grisly murders on record.

The suspects Roger Casey, Jacob Delashmutt and Joseph Fiorella -- all teenagers -- took Elyse to a hidden location about a quarter-mile from her home, fed her drugs, raped her, tied a belt around her neck "to make it easier to stab her", and offered her up as the "ultimate sin against God".

Elyse knew her killers from the school bus. Delashmutt, Fiorella and Elyse attended Arroyo Grande High School in San Luis Obispo, 195 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Delashmutt was expelled from the school in September of 1995; Fiorella left in February 1996 to be home-schooled. Casey attended a nearby school. The three stabbed the girl to death at at an alleged "Satanic altar". The boys "selected and stalked" Elyse believing that a virgin sacrifice would earn them a "ticket to Hell".

Elyse disappeared July 22, 1995 and had been reported missing until Casey came forward and led authorities to her body on March 14, 1996. The girl left her house voluntarily the night she died, although it wasn't clear where she was headed or at what point she encountered her killers. If the teenagers are tried as adults and the jury finds special circumstances, they face up to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Some experts believe the Pahler murder proves their allegations that Satanic and ritualistic crimes are a very real problem in US society.

It should shock no one that Kouri uses a crime over a decade old in order to begin a piece to validate the reality of SRA (Satanic Ritual Abuse.) By the mid-90's most people had become aware that the Satanic Panic was little more than a witch hunt , begun in the early 1980's, designed to fund a newly developed cottage industry that catered to psychologists/counselors with religious inclinations, as well as a new kind of ministry/minister who specialized in re-programming victims of cults, etc....

By 1992 in the realm of the educated, the FBI's report by Kenneth Lanning had sufficiently debunked the notion of organized criminal Satanic cults. Further study into FMS (False Memory Syndrome) as well as watching hundreds of innocent people being destroyed left most mainstream Americans with the nasty feeling that they had dodged the bullet that would have made them accessories to one of the most unjust witch hunts in history.

In spite of mankind's advances in the arts and sciences, there remains a number of people who have not been able to -- or refuse to -- shake-off the practices of pagan rituals, some of which date back thousands of years. Included within the broad spectrum of paganism are so-called Satanic cults which are suspect in a number of bizarre crimes throughout the United States.

Kids, I sit here in dropped jaw amazement that anyone wanting to be taken seriously could write such a thing .

Mr. Kouri would no doubt be equally offended if he heard a bunch of genuine Satanists sit around complaining “ Ya know, we can send a man to the moon and still the majority of Americans have not been able to—or refuse to—shake off the two thousand year notions of virgin births and resurrections, and the advocation for discrimination that come with these archaic religious practices!”

From this point on we can

a) accept that Kouri is an unbelievable hypocrite,

b) has no sense of humor, irony, or comprehension of the First Ammendment.

According to investigative journalist and author Maury Terry, there exists a network of Satan-worshiping cults with members crisscrossing our nation. Terry, whose research takes him to just about every state of the union, participated in a special regional police conference in Ohio, co-sponsored by the American Federation of Police and the National Association of Chiefs of Police.

Terry is a journalist who has done extensive work on The Process Church. It is an easily verifiable fact that The Process has nothing whatsoever to do with modern Satanism, Anton LaVey, The Satanic Bible or The Church of Satan. The most important and obvious distinctions are that the Process practices worship of both Jesus and the Devil. Satanists worship no one, are atheists, and certainly, even within the realm of metaphor, have no time for Jesus. Moreover the Process advocates illegal activity and drug use. The Church of Satan prohibits any illegal activity, including drug ab/use.

So, while Terry may be an expert on The Process he has no such qualifications regarding Satanism and by utilizing the term (s) Satanic/Satanism to apply to the Process he ends up lying about an entire religion and it's adherents. Once a journalist makes those sorts of mistakes everything they write becomes suspect.

His expertise on the subject of ritualistic violence is a tremendous resource for the news media and law enforcement. This writer attended the conference as a result of violent incidents occurring in northern Manhattan -- my jurisdiction at the time; incidents involving animal sacrifices including the killing and mutilation of cats, dogs, chickens, and even a lamb stolen from a petting zoo.

Satanism prohibits sacrifice. ALL living sacrifice. What Kouri describes here is obviously Afro-Caribbean Paganism, such as Santeria and Brujeria, with perhaps a touch of Christian Devil Worship/Heresy.

Satanic Dogma regarding Animal Sacrifice? According to the 11 Satanic Rules of the Earth Satanists can not kill animals unless they are attacked or for food. It is as much a part of the Satanic canon as any of the Ten Commandments are for Christians.

The world of the Satanic cultist is filled with ritualistic violence, perverse sexual activity and abuse, Heavy Metal music and the use of illegal drugs such as marijuana, amphetamines (crank, speed, meth, crystal), psylocybin (an hallucinogenic drug similar to LSD), heroin and other others. This is a world which, even in the beginning of the 21st Century, continues to attract a large number of young people who follow the precepts of Anton LaVey's Satanic Bible, a volume that has millions of copies in print today.

IF YOUNG PEOPLE FOLLOWED THE PRECEPTS OF THE SATANIC BIBLE THERE WOULD BE NO DRUG USE!
\This is just outrageous! It is evident that Kouri opted not to read the very work he is condemning because if he had he would know that everything in this paragraph is FORBIDDEN to the Satanist!

Heavy Metal may be enjoyed by some individual Satanists, but the founder of our religion, Anton LaVey despised it and as a result it is never used in rituals or gatherings of Satanists. Because we advocate personal responsibility we avoid drugs because it reduces inhibitions to a point that negates personal control.

Kouri is evidently one of those people who think it is ok to lie for the greater good, unaware that when you cry wolf too often NO ONE will believe you when a wolf actually appears.

And then, suddenly, the guy wants to clarify---way too little, way too late, and still wrong...........

SATANIC CULTS
It must be made clear to anyone investigating ritualistic crimes: what constitutes a Satanic cult? And what are the differences between these cults and Religious Satanists

Religious Satanists are members of a group which are well organized and structured with a hierarchy. A perfect example is Chicago's Temple of Set: a church that is recognized as a religion by the US and Illinois governments. They enjoy the same tax-exempt status as mainstream religious institutions. Surprisingly, the High Priest of the Temple of Set, Michael Aquino, was a Lieutenant Colonel in the in the US Army Reserves even while practicing his religion.

The ToS is no longer under the helm of it's founder, Aquino, and it has always been an international organization, not exclusively based in Chicago. More importantly the members identify themselves not as Satanists but as SETIANS. And why should anyone be surprised that in a country where the military is used to protect the Constitution which ensures freedom of religion, members of the military may practice their religion?

He is outspoken about his beliefs and has appeared on nationwide television (The Oprah Winfrey Show, for instance) to explain his faith and his church's practices. As far as police agencies are concerned, members of the Temple of Set have never violated the law when practicing their worship and liturgical rites including the Black Mass.

It would seem obvious that the first religious organization in the history of the world to identify itself as Satanic might get a mention, here. In 1966 Anton LaVey founded the Church of Satan. He created a religion that supported the notion that while mankind had outgrown it's need for God, it still required the ritual, dogma, and fellowship offered by religion.

On a less sarcastic note there is definitely truth to the notion that if you add the mix of religiosity, in any form, to crazy and then top it with drugs you have a guaranteed recipe for disaster.

Although rare, reports from police departments across the country reveal that the Satanic cults may begin their worship service with the understanding that an animal or even a human being will be killed and used as a sacrifice to whomever these cult members worship. PLEASE NAME ONE BOOK OR ONE RECORD THAT SHOWS THIS TO BE SO. IDENTIFY THE “WORSHIP SERVICE?” . Murder is rare, but it is a possibility, especially when drugs such as crack, PCP and LSD are part of these dramatic events that are created by leaders and worshipers alike. Crack and the other substances are known to make some users extremely violent, fearless and/or dangerously paranoid and psychotic. Again, murders committed by groups of Satan worshipers are rare, but police officers and detectives investigating a crime scene or missing persons report should consider this avenue of investigation if evidence of the person's involvement with cults comes to light.

Given the fact that the USA is home to a population that is close to 80% Christian, it would follow that 80% of most murder victims are Christian. Likewise 80% of the murderers must be Christian, as well. Why do we not investigate things from a religious perspective 80% of the time?

Then, according to Briggs, an award-winning newsman, there are times when ritualistic abuse is used to break down a young person's resistance. The unwilling recruit may be repeatedly raped or sodomized or worse -- acts of bestiality are performed.

It disgusts me that these types, Kouri, Briggs and the king of the filthy mind, Bib Larson, always end up pulling out the bestiality card. It is like some sort of vicarious thrill and it says so much more about them than abouy any legit Satanist.

How many Satanic practitioners are there in the US?

Are there any estimates based on other information or police intelligence? The San Francisco Police Department's Sandi Gallant can only estimate that " ... at most 1% of Heavy-Metal music fans become seriously involved in the occult."

It should be to pointed out that when Det. Gallant talks about Heavy-Metal music, she isn't referring to bands such as Guns & Roses, Metallica and other popular musicians, but to the sub-category of HM music known as Black Metal, played by bands that are truly underground with a limited audience. However, even the tamer, well-known Metal bands such as Blue Oyster Cult occasionally enter the domain of the Black Arts (witchcraft). Several years ago, two Long Island, NY teenagers committed suicide listening to the Blue Oyster Cult hit song Don't Fear the Reaper.

So we have to ask why Kouri would use these people to support this contentions regarding Satanism today, aware that in just a few short minutes anyone can look them up and find they have been discredited for the money hungry bigots they are?

THE VIOLENCE OF SATANIC CULTS
Readers should be warned that not all practitioners of Satanism are violent savages whose thirst for blood is insatiable. Those living the lifestyle of Satan-worshipers rarely commit murder and rape during their religious rituals. In fact. sadly, more people have been murdered in the name of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc. than in the name of Satan.

Sadly? We should be HAPPY if more people were Satanically murdered?

However, there have been cases in which Satanism, the occult or involvement in the once popular game of Dungeons & Dragons proved fatal for the unsuspecting victim. One example of the total revolt against authority and parental control, and embracement of evil is a case in Bergen County, New Jersey: Thomas Sullivan, a 14 year-old Boy Scout repeatedly and methodically stabbed his mother to death before turning the weapon on himself, taking his own life. Investigation revealed an unhealthy obsession with Satan, Black Metal music, drugs and a morbid fascination with death. In this case, the actor was a loner whose Satanism was a personal and private matter, based almost entirely on what he saw on television or motion pictures.

The truth will always be that as long as the mainstream gets it's information on Satanism either from our direct adversaries (the Christian churches,) or from Hollywood there will always be the creation of the thing that scares us all all—Christians and Satanists alike: The Christian Heretical Devil Worshiper. The devil worshiper is inherently Christian. He believes in the Christianized God and he believes in the Christian version of the devil. He opts to side with the more interesting, more glamorous, more sexual Devil/Satan. Yet he still “worships” the Christian way. He sees the devil as a magical being before whom he kneels and begs and expects prizes for his loyalty.

He has been fed these lies—the lies about sacrifice and perversion, and they stimulate him and he applies them to his Christianized version of Satanism. He is the ultimate self-fulfilling prophecy.

If only he had read The Satanic Bible. At worse he would have said “This shit is boring---all this responsibility just so I can still have to do all the work?, “ and at best he would embrace a religion where the individual takes personal responsibility and is a problem to no one.

What he would not have done is hurt anyone or himself under the aegis of religion.

SATANIC RITUALS
During the course of these so-called religious rituals, drug use is usually rampant and heightens the frenzy and blood-lust of the cultists. According to Pat Pulling, a criminologist Who lectures police departments on the occult and Satanism, rituals may include:

- Victim is placed in a coffin or make-shift coffin.
- Paraphernalia and symbols such are pentagrams, 666 symbols, inverted crosses, etc.
- Heavy feeding of drugs, especially hallucinogens.
- Kidnapping victims.
- Sexual abuse aimed at confusing a recruit and destroying his/her moral foundation.
- Incestuous sex acts (family is involved in the cult).
- Animal or (rarely) human sacrifice.
- Cannibalism.
- Cremation (destruction of victim along with evidence).

Not a single one of these things comes from either The Satanic Bible (The only book Kouri names in this entire clusterfuck of an article,)or The Satanic Rituals

There is considerable ritual abuse during Satanic ceremonies. Indoctrination of the young is the purpose of much of this abuse. Ritual abuse is defined as repeated physical, emotional, mental and spiritual assaults combined with a systematic use of symbols, ceremonies and images designed to turn a person against himself and society. Drugs, again, are utilized during this process of systematic degradation.

A dramatic and arguably frightening part of Satanic religious practices is the so-called Black Mass. It is a rite dating back to the 14th Century Europe and a large part of the Satanic revival of 19th Century France. The ceremony, as practiced by self-styled, makeshift Satanic groups -- as opposed to, say, the Temple of Set, a legitimate religious organization -- is derived from the Roman Catholic or Episcopal mass with Satan the object of worship and praise. There are reports that in some cult-masses, the altar is the nude body of a young woman and the gold chalice may contain a bizarre and nauseating mixture of blood, urine and turnips. There are groups who add an hallucinogenic drug such as psylosybin or methamphetamines.

During the Black Mass, at least as it's performed by self-styled Satanic groups, animal sacrifices are commonplace and sexual experimentation follows large doses of illegal drugs. Although there have been reports of human sacrifices, especially infanticide, these incidents are extremely rare. Those claiming they are not rare but routine say that the infants used in the monstrous ceremony is one that has been conceived and raised just for the purpose of ritual murder. These police officers -- Sandi Gallant among them -- say that birth records of these babies do not exist since the children are born using midwife who's a member of the group or even a physician-member. Children born into a cult are called Generationals.

Congrats, Kouri. If someone came to us, The Church of Satan for information about the Black Mass (Le Messe Noire) they would find a cathartic ritual designed to psychologically terminate the last vestiges of damaging Christianity from the Satanist's psyche. 'Lots of pomp and circumstance, a wee bit of nudity. For adults only, the Black Mass is actually performed very rarely, and is harmless.

Instead, you have given those desperate for religious drama under the guise of historical credibility a prescription for the validation of their mental illness. 'good job.

PROFILE OF THE SATANIST
Who is drawn to this religion? Who gets involved in demonic activity? Well, a profile was developed by Pat Pulling, the leading expert in this area of psychology. The profile is similar in structure to those developed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Behavioral Science Unit. In fact, the creator of the Criminal Profiling System, Special Agent Robert Ressler, during his interviews with over 100 serial-killers and unusually violent criminals, found elements of the occult in the psyche of a few of these killers. Most notable is the Son of Sam, David Berkowitz, although his involvement in the occult was all but totally ignored. (I interviewed the man who coined the term serial killer, Robert Ressler, in the book Crime Talk still available at Amazon.com.) Please note that Ressler rarely writes about Satanism as he himself believes in both God and Satan and feels it would be inappropriate. Pat Pulling died in 1997 and was discredited because her war against the role playing game Dungeons & Dragons proved to be a battle without a cause:

The yet to be captured psychopathic murderer known as the Zodiac Killer is another example of a dabbler in the occult creating his own makeshift quasi-religion. However, these two men were loners and not part of any group, although Maury Terry claims there is a connection between Son of Sam and a few groups in this nation's heartland. Pat Pulling, one expert who believes -- as does Maury Terry -- in a transcontinental network, created a Ressler-styled profile for men and women likely to become involved in Satanic cults or a profile for people who are, because of their psychological makeup, susceptible to cult recruiting tactics:

- Adolescents from white, middle-class and upper-middle class homes.
- Above average intelligence but easily bored with schoolwork.
- Over- or under-achievers.
- Creative and curious.
- Some have a history of family abuse or sexual abuse.
- Rebellious teens or those with low self-esteem seeking power over others.

How do young people become involved? (Take Note: the following are opinions of so-called experts.)

- Through so-called Black-Metal music, most successful being Venom. Some of the more popular bands such as Ozzy Osbourne (of Black Sabbath fame) may touch on
Satan and evil, but they are entertainers, not cult recruiters).
- Fantasy role-playing in games such as Dungeons & Dragons. A surprisingly large number of homicides and suicides have been linked to D & D such as the Joseph Vite case in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and the Juan Kimbrough case in Oakland, California. Both were murdered as part of a game of D& D.
- An unhealthy obsession with movies, books and videos about Satanism and the Black Arts (witchcraft).
- Involvement with Satanists at a rock concert or party (college campuses are ripe for recruiters). The promise of sex and drugs is an attractive incentive.
- Involvement with classmates heavily into occult, Satanism or serious fantasy role-playing.

Those of us who speak publicly for The Church of Satan as well as other alternative religions feel that for something to be considered a Satanic Crime

A) There should be previous proof of involvement with the occult /alternative religion/s prior to the criminal act,

B) there should be a religious/magical reason for there to be a ritual,

C)there should be religious elements at the site (candles, ritual tools,)

D) the criminal act itself should have no purpose other than to satisfy a religious mandate.

The point here is that in almost every alleged SRA case we discover that religion is at best, secondary, and in the majority, an after-thought almost designed to place blame on religion/Satanism.

Sean Sellers killed a convenience store clerk with a shot gun during a robbery and then killed his parents in bed while they were sleeping. In my 28 years in the Occult I have yet to see the ritual of the sacrificial convenience store clerk.

Ricky Kasso tortured and murdered a kid who owed him drug money.

INVESTIGATION OF RITUALISTIC CRIMES AND VIOLENCE
Investigation and prosecution are very difficult since Satanic crimes are cloaked in secrecy. It is estimated that on a small percentage of these criminal acts are ever exposed and even when the murder case uncovers perps, there is no indication of the crime being religion-inspired.

Because they aren't.

I wish we could ask Kouri what it is that a Satanist wants to commit a crime for? WE do not worship any gods, devils, demons, hobbits, angels, or faeries. To WHOM would we perform a sacrifice to, and what is it we think we'd get from it? Our religious literature is clear. It states plainly that the Satanist is his own god insofar as only he can control his existence.

In addition, the profile of Satanic cult members indicates that they are quite intelligent and therefore adept at hiding pertinent evidence. They may even go as far as manipulating the crime scene in order to throw off investigating detectives. Because illegal drugs are very often part of their modus operandi , these cultists are doubly careful in avoiding the attention of police agencies.

Satanists are amazingly intelligent drug addicts with the skills and experience to hide all this from cops? Now it sounds like cops looking for an excuse for being inept!

Testimony given by victims are insufficient to bring cases to trial and prosecutors and district attorneys are hard to convince. According to Lieutenant Lawrence Haike of the Richmond, VA Police Department's detective bureau, "Short of commission of a crime, ritualistic [perps] are protected under the US Constitution's protection of freedom of religion...and in Satanism freedom of religion is just one step across the line from murder."

What? What? Are you kidding? Short of commision of a crime...WHAT would you like to prosecute them for or get testimony about if not a crime? This is just blatant bigotry.

According to Detective Sandi Gallant of the San Francisco PD, there are many problems with investigation and prosecution of ritualistic crime cases. In her police training program -- offered to police agencies across the country and with a waiting list of over a year -- Detective Gallant offers the following list of case difficulties and legal roadblocks:

In an effort to salvage her laughable career Gallant eventually re-canted all this bullshit.

- Investigators disregard original statements regarding rituals and Satanism; therefore detectives and officers only document the outward appearances of the crime such as sexual abuse.
- No physical evidence is found to substantiate statements given by victims or former cult members.
- Crime scenes are never found.
- Crime scenes are found, but do not fit the descriptions given.
- Crime victims are interviewed together in the presence of parents or legal guardians. They may be ashamed to discuss their victimization in front of them or they are terrified to discuss the case because their parents or guardians are part of the cult.
- The suspects and the news media become aware of the case prematurely.
- Because of the illegal drugs involved, it may be difficult for investigators to believe the statements made by victims or former cultists, especially when drugs such as LSD and psylosybin are involved.
- There is an inability to establish a corpus delecti ("body of the crime"):
- Although murders are reported, no bodies are found (Satanists believe in cremation).
- Even though children claim they saw other children who were kidnapped, no record can be found with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children or with the FBI.
- The prosecutor wishes to downplay the Satanic or occult nature of the crime in order to avoid problems with witness credibility, etc.
- The statements of victims and witnesses may appear outlandish and the reputation of the accused may appear impeccable.

In conclusion in an effort to re-establish the fear that brought on the Satanic Panic which allowed mediocre law enforcement officers, psychologists and pastors to get rich on the backs of those who simply do not believe what everyone else does, Kouri has re-released this dated and bigoted piece of anti-journalism.

There is a difference however. Thanks to the Kouris, the Pullings, the Gallants, the Larsons—all of them NOW there really are heretics and devil worshipers who do not respect the law. NOW we have “Traditionals,” “Theistics,” and “Spirituals,” who, because they do kneel, they do worship, and they do by all that Christian bullshit, could be really dangerous. They are the direct product of the marriage between bigoted law enforcement and greedy religiosity.

Investigators arriving at the crime scene of a homicide or suicide should remain open-minded with regard to possible ritualism or Satanic connections to the crime. The crime scene should be searched for any evidence linking the crime to occult activity. If such activity is suspected, chances are drugs may be involved.

According to Satanic Cult expert, Maury Terry, "Satanism in some cases is merely a by-product -- the real motivation of cult leaders is drugs and drug distribution."

My good friends at the Temple of Satan seem to have taken offense to my quest to corner the market on the word Satanism! Wooooo boy! Naturally I thought they'd embrace my idea with open, albeit pudgy, arms and perhaps even ask me to dinner. Not to eat or cook it, of course, but to be it. What with their spiritual bent they probably think like Injuns of old---if they eat me they'll swallow my soul and then! Wow! The ability to write a cohesive sentence won't be far behind. First, Diane Vera can hold her own with me without this asshole. I don't agree with a goddamn word the woman says but I respect her ability and experience to say it. NOT one for the books!

Before my most recent lumbar relapse the big Satanism issue was the putz described above who wants to sue because he is a pussy. The article above and the exchange from a message board below sum up my view. I hope you find it enjoyable.

The following, with minor variations based on type of media, type of article, etc...is the response I have sent to over 40 various news and blog outlets:

As an authorized spokesperson and member of the clergy of the Church of Satan I am writing to respond to the articles about the inmate suing the prison in order to be allowed to practice “Satanism.” It is important to note that the Church of Satan prohibits all illegal activity.
In this particular and specific case the criminal deserves no assistance from the Church of Satan, and it is highly unlikely that the organization will support his alleged rights. If he is looking for forgiveness and welcome he’d do better by the Christian religions that practice mercy---we don’t.
As far as the Church of Satan is concerned this inmate is not a Satanist and we will not have our religion attached to such a ridiculous and shameful attempt at avoiding responsibility. Our rules are clear. He has broken them. Now he must face the consequences. If the clergy supported all personal causes they would not have time for anything else, but besides to condemn a person or to support him there is also the position of remaining neutral. CoS is not of course a layers studio. It is possible that this man had been practicing Satanism. I don't know where you got the idea that was being denied. I said any Satanist of any rank is free to discuss their Satanic perspective, provided they make no implications or statements to make the readers/watchers/;listener believe that what is being said is the answer from the Church of Satan rather than the individual Satanist.

I am having problems completely understanding you so if I am answering with non-sequitors, please forgive.

The clergy exist for the Institution above all things (except their individual lives, we are Satanists after all.) Most religious clergy are, although the Christians will imply that ministering to their members is their primary function. We are honest. Well, I am doing a little jig! Anything that potentially upsets a Joy of Satan retard makes my fucking day! According to the sheep leader of this organization:

It appears that those Joy of Satan retards are unaware of , or do not support the rights of corporations to run their businesses as they see fit. Apparently they believe employees use of a computer belonging to a company and the internet paid for by that company has no boundaries and that an employee should have free rein to use that which is not theirs to their damaged little heart’s content.

WRONG.

Unless the company is breaking a legitimate law said company is allowed to place whatever restrictions it wants to on it’s employees. Home Depot has every right in the world, regardless of reason, to say “Hey, you work for US, and we don’t want you using our internet account and our computers to play at religion, or surf porn, or find coupons. You can do that shit at home.!”

Points of Interest:

1. Face it, anything that fucks with Joy of Satan makes me giddy.
2. Boycotting IS a legitimate and possibly the only truly effective method of protest, but somehow I think Home Depot won’t be missing the whopping .89 cents these cheap bastards might drop for some super glue.
3. In this economy anyone who quits a job over something that they can do at home is a moron.
4. This sort of victim cry about discrimination HURTS those who have a genuine case. When everyone jumps on the victim bandwagon legitimate victims get lost in the fray.
5. So, um, where is Satan and his demons to help this poor afflicted soul? Joy of Satan says “We know Satan and his Demons are real beings. “ So why didn’t the blood-letting, the “meditations<“ and the whole soul selling thing keep Mr. Whiney in a job?

In happy conclusion, if nothing else, Joy of Satan is so busy being anti-Semitic devil worshipers that they neglect to remind their members that nothing beats lesser magic for surviving day to day. Relinquishing your responsibility to Satan is no different than doing the same to God.

Neither will help you earn a dime.

JUSTICE, at last! Harris Guilty! Satanism cleared!

Magus Gilmore, Priestess Graham, Citizen Wylie, and myself have been dealing with this issue for almost a year.

This is my standard letter to the press each and every time they used the word Satanism in regards to this crime:

Ever since Lawrence Harris committed the most heinous and repulsive of all crimes, Satanists have endured a continual assault against our religion, both in the media and within the courtroom. As a result, and to prevent another decade long Satanic panic Satanists are asking responsible journalists to do their jobs properly and research Satanism prior to printing/reporting any further misinformation.

From the moment this crime was committed the Church of Satan found itself in the unenviable position of wanting to deal with Harris Satanically---meaning we want justice with no forgiveness for his horrific crimes, while in no way wanting to validate Harris' defense.

We are thoroughly frustrated that the most basic information about our religion and this case specifically is being ignored! The following are verifiable facts that have been ignored, either intentionally for the purpose of sensationalism, or through the ignorance and laziness of those reporting:

1. Harris was never a member of the Church of Satan.
2. Harris was not a Satanist.
3. There are no rituals in The Satanic Bible that require or even imply any form of living sacrifice.
4. There are no rituals/ceremonies in the entire canon of Satanic dogma that requires or even implies living sacrifice.
5. Satanism prohibits the harming of children and animals.
6. The Church of Satan does not endorse, and will terminate the membership of those who commit, criminal activity.

After 43 years as a legal, growing religion there are hundreds of other quotes and samples of our dogma that could be used here to substantiate our point, but surely these examples would seem worthy of mention when reporters are writing about this case. There certainly has been no shortage falsehoods printed as if they were fact!

Twenty years ago Satanists were forced to hide and were persecuted because a cottage industry sprung up where evangelists, unethical therapists, notoriety hungry authors and dubious journalists created a myth about sacrifices, breeders, and other completely untrue crimes attributed to Satanists/Satanism. The end result was thousands of NON_Satanists had their lives destroyed and many Satanists were forced underground. When the smoke cleared, with the FBI's Lanning Report, one would have thought humanity would have learned something. Instead journalists are swallowing the same lies with the same disregard for truth. We can only hope their refusal to do the most perfunctory research, won't again, destroy the lives of the innocent.

The Church of Satan's High Priest, Magus Peter Gilmore ushered in the age of Justice after 9/11. In that spirit the membership of the Church of Satan wants nothing more than to see Lawrence Harris pay dearly and brutally for his heinous and repugnant crime. One fact about the religion of Satanism that might be of interest is that Satanists do not do forgiveness, and Harris is worthy of no mercy. The same harshness however is not deserved by the many legally practicing Satanists who are being slandered and libeled each and every day.

The information is available and it is free. Surely it isn't too much to ask professional journalists to look at it before making statements that hurt the innocent.

The Church of Satan is relieved to know that the false and derogatory defense Mr. Harris attempted to use to avoid his responsibility for his vicious crimes was met with sanity as evidenced by his rapid conviction.
The Church of Satan's name has been dragged through the mud by both sides in this adversarial process, when all we wanted was justice our religion demands for the children our religion reveres.
It is indeed sad that Mr. Harris cannot legally meet his end in the same way he forced those two innocent children to, but perhaps one day, in a Satanic world.............

Does it ever help? I don't know. For 28 years I have been essentially saying the same thing and yet there is always some new idiot or greedy televangelist who is dependent on Satanism as a scapegoat.

Thanks to all those who thought this mattered enough to get involved! I wish you could see the brilliant writing in the Affidavits that Magus Gilmore sent--it would make you proud of being in an organization that has such brilliance at the very top.

Citizen Dino/Wylie did so much research that I always wished he was prosecuting the case. He found information that shed an entirely different light on the case and would have, if the real prosecutor wasn't a lazy bigot, negated the need for Satanism to even be mentioned.

Happy New Year!

This is my Satanic New Years Post for my friends at Blogspot, Undercroft and Myspace. Yeah, I know, a few days late, but like all good Satanists, real life comes first, and with 5 kids, and 1 grandchild, including a New Years Day birthday, I have been up to my tits in holiday celebrations and get togethers, Yeah, that is right. This Satanic family sang songs about chestnuts and jingling bells, ate turkeys and pies, opened presents (one must do one’s part to stimulate the economy,) and took family photos beneath the tree.

Now, I am sure any Christians reading this, and I have been assured that some do, will either think I am lying or that it is some sort of blasphemy for a family like mine to celebrate Christmas. To them I’d likely be a poster child for the need to put CHRIST back in Christmas. The thought of brothers and sister, raised Satanically, along with ex-husbands and new in-laws, small children and members of the Church of Satan Magistrate all joyfully sharing in each others company under the banner of a Christian myth must seriously confuse and enrage some Christians to the point of distraction.

Likewise devil worshipers and the theists/spirituals/traditionals would feel I am somehow less Satanic for celebrating these Christian traditions, which is ironic because their very existence is dependent on Christian mythology.. Yet, their need for rebellion would allow them to view anyone who celebrates this holiday with contempt and disdain. They would rather deny themselves the pleasures of the season and bitch and moan, instead of embracing the truly Satanic theme of indulgence and eat some kick-ass pie! ‘sad. ‘So very sad.

However, the season has not been totally without work. I have spent quite a lot of time creating a chart that explains the differences between Satanism, Christianity and the assorted heretics who attempt to fly the Satanic colors. The chart started as an attempt at satire and instead has turned into a genuinely interesting and educational model that could explain a lot in a very small amount of time to those who know nothing about the differences between Satanism and what Heretics practice. I intend to publish it here and also use it in future training of both Satanists and secular students alike. It would probably be done were it not for the continued stupidity of the Heretics. Every time I think it is finished one of these insipid groups post/publish some new epic stupidity that must be addressed. I suppose I owe them a debt of thanks for making me useful

Finally, I have some people to thank for helping get me through the past year. These people may not know how much help they’ve been, be it literal or inspirational, but I have no doubt that without them I’d be in a rubber room, swimming in a sea of xanax, thinking I am Napoleon or something.

P&P., David H., Lex, Rob-n-Di, Matt,Bruja, Witch Nine, Col. Akula, Kenaz, Phineas (who checks on my medical condition more regularly than my neurosurgeon!) Caudell, Daark, frankly---all the active membership of the Church of Satan---Intentional or not, you have all given me strength and inspired me. When I was under attack you all stood by and reminded me that I have friends, support and that the CoS has my back. I wish you all knew how much I adore you.

In the Christian world one is supposed to love God above all else, and then love our neighbors equally. That is such bullshit. Nothing comes before my kids and God can take one right in the rear! I have the greatest kids in the world, and while every mom thinks that, I can back up my claim. If the Neitzchean adage about that which doesn’t kill you has any value, my kids are walking proof of strength. Throw my son-in-law and my grandson in the mix and there is a veritable wall that no one can come through or go around. When we stand together we cannot be beaten. We have proved this time and time again, and all my gratitude goes to the three witches and two wizards, who make every day magical.

My mundane life would have fallen apart were it not for B & L, the kindest most generous friends a witch could have.

Ozma saved the day more than once, as she always has and never understands how grateful I am to her, for everything.

CHRISTIANS CREATE DEVIL WORSHIPERS.

CHRISTIANS EMBRACE IGNORANCE. THEY CONSIDER THEIR REFUSAL TO READ THE SATANIC BIBLE EVIDENCE OF THEIR DEVOTION TO GOD, BUT IT IS REALLY AN INTENTIONAL NEED TO SUPPORT THEIR DELUSION.

THEIR INHERENT REPRESSION AND NEED TO BLAME THE DEVIL FOR THEIR NEGATIVE ACTIONS PREVENTS THEM FROM COMPREHENDING A RELIGION THAT FORCES PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY UPON IT'S ADHERENTS.

So.............

There would be no SRA, no "Satanic" abuse were it not for Christian ministers/pastors/priests/evangelicals/and others in the religion business selling their impression (read:darkest desires) of what Satanism is.

Christianity is what is being blasphemed in devil worship, and devil worshipers are Christian heretics, not Satanists.

Unlike the contradictory views put forth in The Holy Bible, The Satanic Bible and Church of Satan dogma PROHIBIT all forms of live sacrifice, PROHIBIT the abuse of animals and children, and are PRO Law & Order. Satanists live in concert with the laws of man, and show no mercy to those who claim to be following "God's laws" as an excuse to be criminal!

Christians are violating their own religious laws by bearing false witness against their Satanic neighbors.

Christians have a financial as well as a spiritual motivation for spreading lies about Satanism.

Time to Blame:
Ygraine finally caves and faces the facts that Christians create the Devil Worshiping scumbags that do all the bad stuff Satanists get blamed for!

This blog usually addresses the people who claim to be Satanists but aren't . I have written about the Theistics and the Spirituals, the Luciferians and the devil worshipers and how their adoption of our (Satanist's) name causes us problems and further confuses a herd that demands immediate and boringly precise labels. My problem with these religious thieves is that they use our name but shun our philosophy, and my conviction that belief, in and of itself, is dangerous.

Because I find the assignment of blame, in the day to day real life world, to be less than productive I rarely place it where it belongs. In life I have find the blame game to be a waste of time that usually would be better spent fixing a problem than determining who's fault it is. 5 kids, all of whom will blame the others for the broken window, will negate the need for literal blame, and propel one forward to Home Depot in the hopes of merely fixing the window without anyone actually cutting their arm's off.

Lately, though, in what I am more and more convinced is a sad return to the days of Satanic Panic, it becomes more and more obvious that Christians are the most irresponsible people on the planet. Their inability to claim the bastard children they have created, and then the further audacity to blame us for the actions those children cause is inexcusable, and I am at a loss to understand how they can sleep at night with that much damage on their consciences.

I found an article called When God is Cast From the Altar by Selwyn Duke.

Mr. Duke is a conservative. Seriously. Now, as any Church of Satan member knows, we have a HUGE portion of membership that is so politically conservative* that aside from threatening to leave the USA if Obama won the presidency, they've made John Birch Society members seem like Planned Parenthood escorts. In suits. The point here is that Mr. Duke would probably be quite shocked to note that many real Satanists hold conservatism as their political ideal. When Mr. Duke veers away from religion in his writing, I can read/hear the echo of any number of friends of mine in the Church of Satan hierarchy who agree with his political views.

I'm guessing he'd hate that.

I bring all this up to demonstrate to Mr. Duke and other Christian enablers that it isn't conservative politics that are objectionable. What is objectionable is the refusal of Christians to accept that they are, almost exclusively, guilty of creating devil worshipers

Mr. Duke writes for about 6 different conservative blog sites, and I used the one on the New American, owned by and posted for The John Birch Society. The article is repeated on several other sites, as well.

Mr. Duke is bemoaning the the Russian situation earlier this year that I have mentioned on this blog. The one where some heretics bought the Christian propaganda of what "Satanism" actually is, and acted according to Christian mythology. Duke writes:

According to the Sun Russia has experienced a series of murders, rapes, mutilations, and desecrations linked to Satanists. No, I did not say Stalinists, although, given how communists will persecute Christians, one could be forgiven for confusing the two. And a most horrific example of such ritualistic murder has just taken place in the nation's hinterlands, as a ring of Satanists has just killed and cannibalized four teens, three girls, and a boy.

Says the Sun-

"The gang of Devil worshippers butchered their victims and roasted them on a bonfire before devouring their flesh....

Their private parts had also been cut off in the sickening ritual in a rural area of Russia.

After police arrested eight suspected members of the ring, one boasted how they had previously dug up the grave of a newly-dead girl and eaten her heart."

Duke continues with:

It is easy to sensationalize the subject of "Satanism," although, of course, wholly unnecessary. It is also common nowadays for people, awash in moral relativism and its corollary of religious-equivalency doctrine, to dismiss the Satanic element of the event as just incidental. To them, these are just some bad kids who did a very bad thing. End of story. But let us not be so philosophically sloppy. Now, I am not going to address the matter of whether or not the Devil actually exists, and while I think those who claim Satanism does not really prescribe such barbaric rituals have taken rationalization to a new level,

WE are rationalizing.

Our Bible, our Church, everything about us denies these practices, and more than all that is the simple fact that when you do not believe in gods or devils, in demons or angels, in any supernatural beings there is no reason for sacrifice of any kind. Combine that with the findings of the FBI as well as state law enforcement agencies and no rationalization is required. Ritual crime is a form of Christian Heresy, not a form of Satanism.

This guy is part of the machine, a veritable TOOL in the machine that creates these Christian heretics, and not only does he prove himself ignorant of the most basic religious information, but he wants to blame us--Satanists, for this sort of behavior! I only wish a Satanist could be the very person investigating this disgusting christian influenced crime as well as punishing these criminals. After all, a Satanist is under no religious command to forgive!

The article is confusing Satanism with the Christian heresy known popularly as ‘Devil Worship,” and therefore draws some conclusions that are false and detrimental to those who adhere to the legal religion of Satanism. It has also served as an inspiration for my latest blog entry. My blog is focused on the difference between Christian heretics and true Satanists and recently I have become more and more convinced that Christians have created the very thing they most fear, and yet refuse to take any responsibility for it. Perhaps my position would be clearer if I simply respond to your statements/allegations/commentary:

Yet, if you want to lay this on religion's door, kindly take a peek at Christianity, because only Christians believe that this is what Satanists do. The remark equating communism/Stalinism and Satanism in order to, once again, martyr Christians, is equally absurd.

They ARE NOT Satanists. Satanism prohibits the sacrifice of humans and animals. Satanism is pro law and order with NO sense of mercy or forgiveness. Satanists believe in no gods, devils, angels or external beings of any kind---therefore there is no need to sacrifice, worship, or pay homage to anyone. All anyone would have to do to know that is either look it up online, or read our Bible.

But that is the catch, isn't it? Christians get to voluntarily remain ignorant of Satanism, as proof of their faith, all the while blaming Satanism for that which they, the Christians, create. They get to utter the words of horror and destruction , of orgiastic and brazen sexuality, vicariously. Their own imaginations merge with the warning shots fired from the pulpit---a cheap, but ever so righteous, thrill. Of course the danger is that slightly off/genetically or environmentally damaged person in the pews. We'll call him Church Boy. We all know him-- he is the one who knows he will never live up to the expectations of God, as he is told that on each visit to church! He is imperfect. He is a sinner. He is unworthy of the blood that Jesus gave for him.
And then, in church, or on the religious channels like TBN, he hears these amazing stories about Satanists. He has been taught since birth about Satan, the devil, the only character who ever stood up to God! All the needs and desires our church boy has been told make him bad, make him dirty, are all embraced by the devil. Once his damnation is assured is it really any surprise at all that our church boy has given in?

Given in to the devil? Given in to Satanism?
No. Neither. The devil doesn't exist, under the name of Satan, or otherwise. Moreover our church boy believes in demons and angels and eternal battles, and in SERVING. If those church pews are good for anything, it is teaching a person how to kneel~and that is the one thing no real Satanist will ever do. Satanists serve no god, no devil, no demon, no angel, the Satanist serves himself and those he loves.

But church boy only knows Satanism from the mouth of his pastor, or the fund-raising TBN specials that lie about "re-formed" Satanists who finally found Jesus. He believes in nonsense like pacts with the devil, or soul selling. His church praises the concept of sacrifice day and night (remember Jesus?), and then, out boy finds a few Christian malcontents, and BINGO!

Next thing you know you've got stupid teen Christian heretics doing precisely what their Christian religion told them to do is they want to be Satanists! The only fly in the ointment would be if the congregation actually read The Satanic Bible. If that happened then even the weak, even the stupid, our church boy for instance, would realize that Satanists do none of the things we are accused of. They will know that they are being lied to from those they most count on for truth.

Of course most Christians would hate the book anyway. Those who feel comfortable with Christianity are highly unlikely to be the types of people who demand complete self-awareness and self-responsibility. They like their omnipotent jealous God who can't decide from testament to testament what he wants, and they want their devil--horns and all, to blame all their problems on.

So, it is strange that the ministers are fearful of The Satanic Bible. Satanists do not convert or recruit so it seems all the Christians have to worry about is their flock discovering they have been lied to from the altar, and really, that should shock no one at this point.

It is easy to sensationalize the subject of "Satanism," although, of course, wholly unnecessary. It is also common nowadays for people, awash in moral relativism and its corollary of religious-equivalency doctrine, to dismiss the Satanic element of the event as just incidental. To them, these are just some bad kids who did a very bad thing. End of story.

Mr. Duke, again, your ignorance of Satanic philosophy makes your statements moot. Satanists do not accept concepts like moral and cultural relativism! You are defining us as the things you don’t like--as if you were sitting at dinner and saying “I don’t like peas, so peas must be Satanic.” Would twenty minutes of your time to do a little research have hurt you that much? Have you so little faith in those who's faith you share that without a boogieman religion, replete with soul selling, dead babies and blood soaked rituals, you fear our religious text will adversely effect them?

As for the case in question: Christians are commanded by their god to forgive these monsters. New Agey folks might want to understand and find some psychological explanation. A Satanist would want these criminals destroyed. Swiftly and without mercy!

I also agree with you that it is horrible that people will ignore the religious overtones of the crime. The difference is, however, you blame my kind, and I blame yours.

The kind of “Satanism” these animals practiced? Not in my bible--not taught at my church….this is what people learn sitting in Christian pews. This is what good Christian parents drag their kids to Hell Houses’ on Halloween to see. I would assume you would allow one definition of a Christian is one who follows the tenets as written in the Holy Bible.

We get the same right. A Satanist is someone who follows the religion of Satanism as put forth in The Satanic Bible.

Our Bible clearly prohibits the actions we are discussing here. There are no exceptions. Unlike you we are not told to spare the rod and spoil the child, we are told to NEVER harm children and animals. We are forbidden from breaking the law, and unlike Christians who simply move pedophile priests and tax evading pastors from one church/diocese/area to another, we actually excommunicate members who are convicted of crimes against persons. We ARE NOT morally relativistic.

The “barbaric rituals” are all forms of Christian heresy. To worship your devil, you have to believe in your god. We don’t.

One is that this kind of savagery was ubiquitous throughout the world for most of man's history. Cannibalism and human sacrifice, attended by rituals not to be outdone by the most fertile horror writer's mind, were the norm. Oh, these acts were not usually committed in the explicit name of Satan; it might have been in that of the Aztecs' feathered serpent god Quetzalcoatl or one of 10,000 other names in 10,000 other places. What they had in common was not the name adorning their bloody altars but that which they either did not know or denied: Jesus Christ.

Modern Satanists don't give a flying rat's ass about what was or wasn't the norm for other religions. We have no need to validate ourselves by claiming ancient origins or any barbaric evolution. It really is very simple: When you dismiss all possibilities of gods, there is no one that needs appeasement, sacrifice, homage, or subjugation to.

Jesus is just another method by which the emotionally needy alleviate their personal responsibility. As long as there is a God to thank, and a DEVIL to blame, most folks will happily give up their personal power in return for some mythical post-death vacation.

I assure you, Mr. Duke, these criminals had heard all about Jesus Christ. They had heard all about god, a crucifixion, and martyrdom, and all the fun stuff you guys get off on. The one thing they obviously DID NOT hear about is genuine Satanism and what a Satanic view of this criminal behavior would reveal:

If you think this will be straightforward evangelization, think again. I will spend no more time trying to convince that Jesus is God than I will trying to prove that the Devil was the first to reject Him. Instead, I will mention another fact of history: Christian civilization put an end to the aforementioned savagery. I will also mention a perception of mine, one that I am certain is correct and will be borne out over time: as we deviate from our Christian foundation, as we reject the Christian virtues, as Christianity continues to be demonized and demons trivialized, we regress to these dark norms of the past.

Wow! Christianity put an end to savagery? Tell that to the victims of the Crusades and the Inquisition. Tell that to the children of Andrea Yates. Tell that to the Catholics who still can't get by without drinking some blood and eating some body every Sunday.

What you keep ignoring, on purpose, is that every act of alleged satanic abuse is CHRISTIAN!

Since honesty isn't your forte', and evidently research is not something you feel inclined to do, let's try logic:

Ritual abuse and sacrifice serves the point of proving loyalty and devotion to a powerful external entity/deity, correct? It is used to give something to said deity in return for something else, right?

Well, if you do not believe in any external deities, if you are an atheist who uses the archetype of Satan as a metaphor only, what use would there be for sacrifice?

Easy. There would not be. Without gods sacrifice doesn't exist.

Conversely: You have been taught your whole life that there is bad and good. God is good, the devil is bad. You are taught that these are literal beings, watching every move and powerful over humans. They are cosmic scorekeepers, tallying up good and bad points to determine what happens to you after you die.

In the churches, on websites, you are fed a steady diet glamorizing a mysterious religion that your parents and pastors call "Satanism." All the interesting stuff in the Holy Bible, all the orgies and drugs and power everyone aligns with Satanism---wow........and if you are a malcontent who has become convinced that you'll never get to Heaven anyway, why not join sides with the bad, but interesting, guy?

Of course if you simply pick up The Satanic Bible all your conclusions are shattered. You discover a religion where you, not God, have to take responsibility for your own life. You discover that if it is illegal you cannot do it and still be a Satanist. You discover, despite all you were told about on Geraldo and in church, that Satanism demands study, not worship. What a bummer!

Yet there is an irrefutable correlation here, one strong enough to indicate causation: Virtually everyone who commits such acts renounces the Christian faith. A good example of this is one of the Russian teen perpetrators, a boy who was once a church-goer but got "fed up" with God and found that "things improved" when he started worshipping Satan.

They had to have it to renounce it!

Really, though, this piece is not about Devil worship per se. There are not all that many Satanists around, and even if people do not believe in the Devil, not many would say that devilishness is good. But consider this passage from the Sun article:

While genuine Satanists accept all the 7 deadly sins because they lead to human gratification, and they believe in self-responsibility which requires putting themselves first, none of the things you mention here are likely to cause criminal behavior. In fact, Historically they also lead toward technological advances in order to create more free time to indulge in all the beauty and joy life has to offer.Devil worshipers, on the other hand, want to do whatever it takes to piss off God. Christians tell them what makes God angry, and in order to get brownie points from their imaginary devil, they do them. Again, it is the Christians who create this scenario.

Does this not sound an awful lot like the modern secularist creed? What set sends the messages, "If it feels, good, do it [indulgence, sex]," "Put yourself first [e.g., abortion]," and has peddled pride in the guise of self-esteem training, Christians or their adversaries?

I guess if I peddled a god who wanted me miserable, feeling good would be a bad thing, but this truly demonstrates why Christians are creating these appalling devil worshipers. Yet critics may say that secularism does not explicitly prescribe these things in just the way Devil worshippers might say that Satanism does not explicitly prescribe what we associate with it. I will just smirk and say that I will not argue that here, as there is a larger point to be made...............It is said that evil is the absence of good just as darkness is the absence of light. Thus, what do you think man's nature is in the absence of good? (Interestingly, it is precisely what it is absent Christianity.) Forget Jean-Jacques Rousseau's naive musings about how children, when left to their own devices, will evolve into angels; the truth is that, unless a powerful brake is placed on will and appetite, they devolve into demons. Philosophers may argue about whether our nature is naturally bad or supernaturally fallen, whether the remedy is psychology or grace, but about the practical nature of that nature there is little dispute. And it rears its ugly head, unless someone — or something — can cage the beast.

That borders on nuts. For thousands of years prior to Christianity men somehow figured out that killing each other, stealing, lying---all those negatives weren't conducive to productive lives. Without one bad Jewish book, all by themselves, people realized that life was better when people weren't killing each needlessly, that stealing sucked, and that it was easier to get a job done if you weren't in constant drama with your neighbor.

The idea that Christianity is the great model of civilized behavior is absurd. The Holy Bible is genocidal, racist, woman hating, and does one thing right: It allows stupid people, those who have no inherent brakes, the opportunity to learn that which anyone with a brain already knows instinctively.

Therefore, to say that this or that philosophy, religion or ideology did not prescribe a given evil misses the point. At issue is not merely what a philosophy does but also what it fails to do. Without adequate moral constraints, people are animalistic, which is why cannibalism, human sacrifice and slavery have been the rule of history, not the exception.

Yes, man is an animal, but a social one. As a result there are inherent behaviors that have evolved as a norm. Your silly book did not begin or end anything. There is nothing new under the sun---everything is an adaptation, or a response to something that existed previously.

Why did we long ago identify "Seven Deadly Sins"? It was not because it made for good Shakespearean plays or Bible stories, but because man naturally exhibits lust, greed, sloth, gluttony, envy, wrath, and pride. So saying that a philosophy does not teach these things (and some do) is simply akin to stating that it does not prescribe a given frailty of man's nature; it is like saying that an administered medicine did not cause the disease, it just did not cure it. Perhaps the major reason why we formulate our philosophies is to mitigate man's flaws, to improve his condition. Thus, if a given one does not serve that end, it is at worst harmful, at best useless.....This is why, of all the criticisms of Christianity, perhaps the silliest is that it is unrealistic. What it asserts about God's nature can always be argued, for it is hard to prove the divine, but what it teaches about man's nature is so perfect it seems divinely inspired. Thus, while some may scoff at the mystical and metaphysical and claim the faith is mythological, note that it is, above all, practical.

I suppose there is a degree of practicality, again, in reminding stupid people about natural law, but in no way does that negate the dangerousness of Christianity. Aside from creating devil worshipers, their other big trick is making people believe that their lives do not matter, and that it is what happens after you die that counts. By pretending that a person's current existence is merely a dress reherasal for the afterlife, Christians completely eradicate a vested interest in life itself.

A Satanist knows there is but one life. A Satanist loves this life with all their being because it is rare and unique---the only life they'll ever have. The Satanist does not regulate his behavior with fairy tales about Heaven and Hell, he regulates his behavior with a full, pragmatic knowledge of the here and now.

In other words, a typical psychologist — a person secular to the core — may dismiss talk of Jesus forgiving sins and performing miracles. Yet, if he truly understood his craft and Christianity, he would at least have to cede that the faith is a brilliant cure for our "disease." Not only did Christianity define man's characteristic faults with scientific precision, it then prescribed the remedy of holy virtues. Lust was countered with chastity, gluttony with temperance, greed with charity, sloth with diligence, wrath with patience, envy with kindness, and pride with humility. We may now consider these virtues self-evident and take them for granted in the same way that Rousseau was so immersed in Christendom that he could take civilization for granted and assume that children naturally became moral. But, for example, pride was not always considered a grave flaw, or, in the least, man did not always have a perfect yardstick of humility that could reveal even its most subtle, deceptive or universally accepted and admired forms. Why, for much of history, the man to pattern yourself after did not ride a mule and wash others' feet but was a bloodthirsty warrior with an ego whose proportions matched his lust for power. It was "What would Alexander the Great do?" I suppose. Certainly, it was his example the young Julius Caesar lamented not living up to.

Faith is the disease.
Faith is the excuse.

Satanists do not have faith or belief, but Christians and devil worshipers do. Again, because you teach people to believe in the imaginary, in that which can't be seen, you begin the process of creating your own enemies. Only those indoctrinated in Christian mythos are capable of translating that blind faith, that subjugated worship, into the vile and dangerous heresy you have the nerve to call "Satanism."

Let us consider another aspect of Christianity as cure. Many high-profile atheists, such as Christopher Hitchens — who was recently parading about the country peddling his irreligious book — argue against the faith with a point they seem to think is somewhat deep and clever. They say that an atheist is actually more virtuous than a believer because when he acts rightly, it is not because he fears eternal punishment but simply because it is the "right" thing to do. Thus, the atheist's is the higher, more evolved motivation.

Let us consider the Satanist! We know we are more "virtuous" not because of either the Christian or atheist's reasoning, but because WE DO understand the human animal and what is required for that animal to have the least stress and negative experiences because we have no desire to waste one moment of this one, singular life. To ensure our freedom, to have each day resonate with joy requires civility, decency, love and honesty. We need no commandments and we don't want a good-guy badge from the masses. Our life matters.

Yet, if these critics ever determined to "know thy enemy" and bothered to study the theology of what they condemn, they would not feel so clever. Long before psychology was born (interestingly, the word "psychology" means "study of the soul" {from "psyche," Greek for "soul"}) and Erik Erikson taught about the stage of "psycho-social development" in which a person only understands that something is wrong if he is punished for it, Church fathers understood that people existed in different stages of moral development. Sure, it is ideal when people do the right thing simply for the sake of it, but what of the many who do not? Does a good psychologist ignore this swath of humanity, this widespread phenomenon of man?

Well, at least we agree that for the stupid Christianity serves a purpose. Sadly, for the stupid AND the broken it creates devil worshipers.

Thus did the Church talk of love and fear of God and promulgate the teaching of perfect versus imperfect contrition. Perfect contrition is ideal; it is when one is sorry for a misdeed because he loves God and violated His laws (in secular terms, loves what is right and violated it). Imperfect contrition is when one is sorry simply because he fears punishment.

While being in the latter state is not ideal, having something to mitigate it certainly is. Thus, we can argue about whether Heaven and Hell exist, but can their value as the ultimate positive reinforcement and ultimate disincentive for the less morally evolved be disputed? I don't think so, and I suspect that Dr. Erikson, who grew closer to Christianity later in life, would have agreed.

Sadly, the Satanist cannot be so self-deceptive that Heaven or Hell hold any meaning. This is one of the obvious variations one sees when dealing with a Satanist vs. a Devil worhiper. The devil worshiper will believe in Heaven and Hell exactly how the Christian will. The only skew will be they have made themselves believe that they are aligned with the devil, and for them, Hell will be a rockin' place.

The Satanist laughs at the very notion of Hell, just as they do Heaven, confused by those who need to base their actions today on what might happen during decomposition.

Of course, as a man of faith, I am not merely a utilitarian with respect to Christianity. Yet its utility is striking. People argue about whether it is an expression of the divine or just an invention of man, but what is overlooked is that if it did not exist, we would have had to invent it. Or, at least, something virtually indistinguishable from it. That is, if we could.

Obviously they did.

But, here is my question regarding utility---what are you going to do to fix those you have broken?

Really, a fair hearing finds that Christianity fits fallen human nature not like a glove, nor like a straightjacket, but like a form-enhancing garment that minimizes faults and accentuates strengths. And, at the end of the day, its critics are motivated more by fear of Truth than love of it; they are attached to their misshapen forms and fear that the garment will somehow fall on their shoulders. Why, Christopher Hitchens himself has admitted that he does not want God to exist, that he dislikes the concept of an eternal rule maker. And comedian Bill Maher, another noted atheist, once said "The concept of Absolute Truth is scary." It sure is

Funny, that may be the atheist view, and while Satanists are atheistic, we find the lack of truth to be the scary. Said our founder "The truth never set anyone free, DOUBT did."

So, Mr. Duke, to sum.....

Christians believe in an omnipotent Higher Power called God.

Devil Worshiper believe in and are mad at a Higher Power called God.

Satanists believe in no gods at all.

Christians believe in a literal entity, the devil, whom they name Satan despite the original Hebrew translation of the word meaning adversary, accuser, opposer.

Devil Worshipers believe in a literal entity, the devil, whom they worship .

Satanists believe in no devils, demons, or other entities at all.

Christians support the notion of sacrifice as evidenced by their messiah sacrificing his life and blood to atone for mankind.

Devil worshipers support sacrifice because the Christian churches tell them that is what they have to do to make a pact with the devil.

Satanists deny all living sacrifices because there are no external deities to appease/impress/manipulate or seek favor from.

Christians lie about Satanists to keep themselves in business and to seem relevant and necessary.

Devil worshipers lie because they were taught by the Christian churches that is what they are supposed to do.

Satanists tell the truth and are accused of lying because Christians cannot bear the idea of people being moral, decent and kind and yet don't drop on their knees to worship some fairy tale.

See? The devil worshipers are much more close to you, than to us!

The Joy of Satan issue forced me to go deep into the land of the internet where everyone has a voice and all ideas are ok. A place where feeling that you are right, is wrong, a place where it is considered a sin to be proud of your associations.

A place that sucks.

I knew that there are bunches of people claiming to be Satanists, who aren't. I mean, no shocker there---that is what I write about, after all. The traditionals, the spirituals, the theistics, they are practically my bread and butter. I was under the impression that if not for them I'd be stuck writing about the stupidity of Christians all day long, and essentially become obsolete due to redundant obviousness. So, yes, the nut bags were a given. I was chasing nutbags when I came upon several message boards.

Now, I have isolated myself in recent years. Somewhere along the way I stopped banging my head against the proverbial wall and began only going to/posting on/participating with my own kind. About 7 years ago I stopped posting on alt.satanism because it had nothing to do with Satanism anymore and was merely a vehicle for those with CoS gripes to have a forum to actually be heard by CoS people. Then I stopped posting on all but CoS approved message baords--which left a whopping one...

and, before i go further I'd like to say thank you Magister Lex Ventrue. For Satanists who live in tunnels and caves Lex has, for 15 years, provided members and friends of the Church of Satan a variety of online forums and applications for their benefit. Lex is a technological genius and was a computer nerd before computer nerds were cool. He ran the earliest Satanic chat rooms on mIrc, and then created Letters To The Devil, a message board utilized mostly by Church of Satan members. He owns and runs the CoS Emporium, a slew of other online hosting for a variety of interests, and Undercroft-Satanism's answer to social networking boards like myspace and facebook. Beyond all that, Lex is a friend of amazing generosity, talent, and kindness.

So, for almost 8 years the only online playground I have spent recess in was LttD.

Boy! Did I ever get spoiled.

Following links left by Joy of Satan led me to two or three open occult message boards. At first I was delighted as back in the day, message boards that welcomed Pagans and Wiccans were generally not very friendly to Satanists and i actually made the mistake of thinking this was a good thing. I was under the misguided impression that the RHP had finally seen the err of their ways, that Satanists aren't baby-killers and ritual blood letters, and that we could at least exchange some ideas and friendships without scapegoating.

Well, smack my ass and call me stupid! Evidently the Wiccans and neo-Pagans are more open, yeah, but not to legitimate Satanists, oh no! You'd have thought I shit in their cornflakes. I spent the next three days defending, defending for chrissakes, Dr. LaVey and the Church of Satan, and not from the neo-Wicca/Pagans, either. No, I was getting my cyber ass kicked by alleged Satanists who have some major league hard on about the CoS in general and Dr. LaVey in particular. It was reprehensible.

Now, many of these satanists--and I am intentionally using the lower case "s," are exactly what I write about here. They are merely devil worshipers, who believe in an entity named Satan, and follow the Christian tradition of the devil. A few more are Pagans who have adopted negative/dark/demonic god-forms, re-adapted old cultural religions, and call it satanism to simplify matters. They are followers of old Egyptian demonics and Sumerian gods and what-the-fuck have you. They, at least, are vaguely interesting. However, I'd label them more as dark/negative neo-Wiccans (Wiccans Without a Clause--no rede, get it??!! h ahahaha,) than as Satanists, because the aren't!

Finally, and most insultingly, there are these rude, arrogant, quasi-satanists who need to believe that satanism existed long before LaVey.

You see, I was unaware that Ragnar Redbeard and Neitzche spawned a religious time traveling baby, and that LaVey borrowed HG Wells machine and stole the forbidden texts and fed them to an imaginary lion while he was beating his wife. No really. It happened just like that, right before Zeena killed her father and Peter Gilmore beat Blanche Barton in mud wrestling for control of an imaginary organization.

I wish I was fucking kidding. That may not be it word for word, but I defy anyone to find something these twits say that makes more sense than that! They are really pissed off, and I cannot imagine why it matters so much to them that they can write absolutely nothing without a jab at LaVey or my church. When I guested on my dear friend David's Satanism Today show last week we discussed the problems in South Africa, Russia, and right here in our backyard. I am sorry if folks can't see the logical conclusion that worshiping, that even believing in such nonsense is not only absurd and un-Satanic, but genuinely dangerous.

Let's examine the logic.

What does belief in an external deity do?
1. It means that someone other than self has the ultimate control.
2. It means your actions will either please or anger said deity.
3. It means there is a reward/punishment motif throughout life that determines behavior.

What does having an external deity having ultimate control mean to people?
1. It means that the self can take no pride, not take any blame for their actions.
2. It means that irresponsibility can be happily utilized by the lazy and the criminal because if a deity is present and all powerful, surely he can stop or change human action to suit his needs, and the human becomes blameless.
3. It means life is cheap, as the deity has a gazillion little toys (humans) to play with and the individual is nothing more than another doll.

What about reward/punishment?
1. Either "karma" comes into play, and deity becomes a cosmic scorekeeper, cheerfully waiting for the individual to fuck up to thrash him while alive, or.....
2. There is a Heaven and Hell, or some other afterlife making, again, life cheap and meaningless as those who follow the deity are waiting to die to earn their reward, or accept that they are shit, figure they are going to Hell anyway, and continue to sin, or.....
3. They believe in reincarnation, whereby the individual either gets a new life (so why bother with the previous one?,) or regresses to whatever lesser life form the deity wants---like a mosquito or something.

The point, obviously, is that the Satanist KNOWS this is their one life. It is beautiful and valuable because it is unique and there is no more!

The point is there is no time to beg some external deity for favors, because the Satanist is too busy making things happen giving their individual life meaningful for them, to get on their knees and beg!

The point is the Satanist cannot murder or sacrifice, because their is nothing to sacrifice to, no deity to judge them, and life is too valuable to chance running afoul of the laws of man and losing freedom.

We Satanists are a stoic bunch. It is against our nature to give too much credence to these theists because we don't like to waste our personal precious energy on them. BUT we're going to have to.

The Worst of the Worst: Joy Of Satan

Five minutes ago as I was finishing up the research to write this blog, my beloved Magister Mitchell asked me what was wrong with Joy of Satan Ministries? Out of my mouth popped " Well, if you read everything I have ever written about what is wrong with non-CoS Satanism and put it all in one place, BINGO! You'd have Joy of Satan Ministries." I wish I had been exaggerating.

It is the policy of The Church of Satan to not name offending organizations because it often gives these losers a sort of reverse validation. To even know that they are being noticed by us makes them giddy with the sort of joy only willing victims can revel in. This group is such an object lesson, such a textbook description of everything wrong that I can find no way around addressing them by name and addressing them completely. Joy of Satan is a spiritual devil worshiping sect heavy on anti-Semites and white supremacy (except for Native Americans, 'go figure,) which advocates recruitment of kids, blood ritual, appeasement magic, and historical revisionism. When I write about what makes Satanists look bad---these are them.
Not long ago some moron complained that I had written that there was no Satanism prior to 1966. This Hawking clone wrote "Bullshit! What about Joy of Satan?" I had never heard of these people before and did some preliminary searches to find this group began in the late 90's/early 00's. Historical chronology apparently is not part of the training. The leader is a lady called Maxine Deitrich, which is not her real name, but who cares? Most of us in this line of work use a pseudonym--no sin there. The mailing address is Tulsa Oklahoma and they seem to have legitimate credentials regarding copyrighting their material and being a legal religious institution. 'can't gripe about that. Which is just as well because there is so much to complain about that I may not stop writing until Christmas. Let us start with their basic philosophy:

That this bitch would have the balls not only to direct this detritus at kids, but then tell them to lie to their parents as a religious mandate from a literal god-form named Satan is inexcusable. She is handing the mainstream their biggest fears on a platter. She is embodying the very lies I have worked for decades to dispel, and I take it really personally, as a Satanist, a parent, and a woman. She has forfeited her vagina as far as I am concerned.

My readers know that my specific field of interest is making the word "Satanism" mean one thing. As aware as i am that it is not an easy accomplishment it is a valuable one. This blog has entry after entry of me supporting my contention with historical fact and sociological reasoning. Several of my readers are even "spiritual satanists" who may disagree with me as a result of their own religious leanings but understand the reason why I feel this is a worthy pursuit. As the world gets smaller (via the internet) I believe it becomes more necessary for future generations of Satanists, my children as a matter of fact, to have the right to their religious name without apology or misunderstanding. This blog has paragraph after paragraph about how there was no codified religion called Satanism prior to 1966. Based on that as well as The Satanic Bible, an organized hierarchy, published and accepted (by law enforcement and academics, alike) ritual and dogma, and a thriving membership, my contention is that Satanism means one thing: The religion created by Anton LaVey, as put forth in The Satanic Bible, as practiced by those who have adopted the philosophy within The Satanic Bible and/or who are members of The Church of Satan.

The importance of this is based on the fact that without strict definition there is no defense or understanding. I want, when someone hears the word Satanist for them to immediately know what we are, or, even more importantly, what we aren't.

Christians Against Cartoon: Agreement Across the Aisle

It certainly is more of the same sort of paranoia associated with the D & D freak-out/satanic panic of the 80's.

But what I am guessing is that the providers/writers of this page don't know is how much I, as a Satanic Mom, agree with their ultimate position---that a lot of these cartoons are horrible for children and sending messages that are against my religion.

Can you imagine?

Of course it is the utter lack of understanding of Satanism that fuels the web site's contention. Because Christians are generally low on imagination they assume anything bad is Satanic, anything they disagree with, likewise. Therefore they equate Communism as Satanic.

While the Church of Satan purposely takes no position on politics, the Satanic philosophy of individualism, self-divinity, self-responsibility, and meritocracy pretty much negates any communist leanings.

Regarding Dora The Explorer the Christians against Cartoons write this:

This goat that bears the sins of all of the Children of Israel is Azazel Goat, The Goat of Mendes, The Devil Himself! There is no doubt that the creators of “Dora The Explorer” included this Goat as a reference to the Lord of the Suphur Pit to put our Children at ease with the demonic in much the same manner as the creators of “Monsters Inc.” and “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends” that we have discussed earlier.

The bit about making kids comfortable with the demonic is insane, of course. At no point does anyone explain why anyone would want to make kids comfy with the demonic. Evidently the Christian theory is that all creative people in Hollywood are either pawns of or in league with the literal devil. As a Satanist who has sat through any number of movies, TV shows, etc....I can assure them they are wrong. If there were a devil he'd have more taste.

What is offensive to me about Dora's goat is that he IS NOT used to promote the Satanic ideals we use the Baphomet for in Satanism. My kids called all goats Baphomets their whole childhoods. I used the image of baphomet and trips to the petting zoo as opportunities to teach all manner of life lessons, all of which are good and solid and psychologically empowering. Dora's goat does not show man to be just another beast, not does he demonstrate the need to reject spiritual trinities. What he is used for is to promote the ideal of cultural relativism.

As I wrote in the previous blog, I am way over cultural relativism beyond it's ability to explain. While I am a firm proponent of gray, as in not everything is black and white, there are some shades in between, like my CaC friends here, I find using Cultural Relativism to mitigate things that are considered an abomination here in the West, to be unacceptable. And again! I hate Sponge Bob. I don't get it. It is a badly animated, ugly cartoon, about a friggin' sponge, for chrissakes. My reasoning may vary, but I will agree with the CaC when they say this:

The only real common ground, and the Christians will never admit it, is that Satanists and Christians and Muslims and Jews and Pagans and everyone wants what is best for their kids. Everyone. What is different is what constitutes best.

The rest of this site is absolutely insane. Really. The fear of homosexuality makes you believe that the entire thing was written by some closeted latent homo who lives each moment terrified that he'll see a guy and get a hard-on. They are planning to turn our kids into automatons with big eyes, reduced vocabularies, and a conviction that bottle caps or "ballz" are effective weapons in a crisis.

Much as I enjoy The Family Guy, The Simpsons, and South Park, plainly there are parents who are too stupid to know that just because something is a cartoon does not make it appropriate for kids. The sexuality and the lack of respect towards elders is not a lesson one wants to instill in pre-teens.

The super hero cartoons are just too redundant and liberally based for me to feel good about. It is a sad state of affairs when I think Dexter would be a better role model than Spiderman!

There is one thing I am certain of. These Christians want to take away the freedom of parents to choose. For those who are so against communism and socialism they seem to want an awful lot of government intervention/baby sitting.

(The WB thinks kids should wrestle at school. I caught my little ones putting on masks and punching each other while watching this one... a violent and repulsive cartoon!)

I wrote to the Jamaica dude:

What you are describing is not Satanism, but actually Christian Heresy, a form of Devil Worship wherein the offender believes in the Holy Bible/Jesus/God/The Devil, but is disenchanted and opts to support the anti-hero.

This particular form of Heresy is born when Christian clergy, through ignorance and fear, refuse to become properly educated about Satanism, and then tell their followers these urban myths about what they think Satanism is. To the angry, the bored, these tales are much more exciting than traditional Christianity--and, in the real world, what Satanism actually is.

The Satanic Bible prohibits sacrifice of any kind. There is no ritual in legitimate Satanism that demands blood, ever. The Church of Satan does not allow minors to join or attend rituals, and the Church of Satan does not actively recruit. Satanism demands study, not worship. Satanism is atheism, using the figure of Satan as a metaphor.

In other words, Jamaica would be a safer place if more people were aware that Satanism in reality is far different from the thing their clergy people are attempting to frighten their followers over. If they knew the truth much fewer would be interested: Most people are not ready for the personal responsibility that comes with rejecting all notions of gods and devils. Most people long to thank God, and blame the devil for all things, instead of facing life with the complete knowledge that they alone are responsible for their own lives.

There are not all that many genuine Satanists in the world. The Church of Satan is proud to have been their home for over 44 years. However, every day Christian clergy create more devil worshiping heretics with their ignorance, their tall tales, and their lack of familiarity with the truth.
